The next-gen Note will be announced on August 2 in a special event in New York City. The Hammerstein Ballroom will be filled with media people and fans eager to see the Note 7 and Note 7 edge. We’re not expecting to hear a big surprise because we’ve filled several pages here but we’re interested to know which ideas will turn out to be true. We want to know if there will still be a flat Note or will Samsung do away with it.

As early as February, the Note 7, then called as the Note 6, was rumored to have a whopping 6GB RAM as a possible Europe variant. The phablet soon started to go into production for a mid-July launch but as you know, there’s nothing for this month. Even when its months away and if competition isn’t out yet, the Note 7 was already speculated to use the same Snapdragon 823 as the G Flex 3–also unveiled.

Some early leaks about the Note 6-turned-Note 7 included the coming of the USB Type-C, a Lite variant with lower specs, and that it will come with the Samsung Focus app. Soon enough, we heard about the news that Samsung would skip the 6 and go straight to Note 7 which may also have a Lite or Edge variant and iris scanner for better security according to the blueprints exposed.

When the event invites were revealed, more rumors, leaks, and speculations came up and most of them are actually confusing. For one, we were told that there won’t be a flat variant but then some posts are showing a device with a front panel.

We know the Note 7 will have that iris scanner as we mentioned numerous times already. The eyeprint security technology has been a hot rumor mill subject since Samsung registered for a trademark and patents were filed. The iris scanner is intriguing because it is said to be faster than fingerprint. We’re also curious to know if the tech will work properly since we heard that it won’t work with eyeglasses and contact lenses.

So much has been said about the Galaxy Note 7 and a lot of images have been leaked already. A number of prototypes have been shown off like that video of the TouchWiz Grace UI, more leaked images, and the possible variants as spotted on FCC.

Other important information we learned had something to do with Y-OCTA tech which could be display-related and that it will have an AlwaysOn display.

Several phone cases were also sighted this early on MobileFun. There’s also a set of wallpapers, a hands-on video, prototype of a flat screen variant, more protective cases, and an adaptive Fast Charger leaked.

At this point, it’s really interesting that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has been sighted with a flat screen when we’ve been saying it will have a dual edge curved screen.

Iris scanner warnings came in early. When it comes to color options, we learned there will be Gold, Blue, Black, and Silver Note 7 models—no rose gold version. As for the specs, here’s what we’ve gathered so far:

• OS: Android 6.0.1 topped with TouchWiz GGrace UI
• Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8xx (2.3GHz 8-core) or Exynos 8890
Display: 6-inch Super AMOLED, QHD resolution (2K, 2560 x 1440)
• Battery: 3500 or 3600mAh
• RAM: 4GB or 6GB
• Storage: 64GB/128GB (expandable)
• Cam: 12MP dual pixel, Sony IMX260 sensor
• Cam: 5MP front-facing
• Connectivity: 4G/LTE, WiFi
• Others: iris scanner, fingerprint sensor, IP68-certified, S-Pen stylus

  1. Not really worth an upgrade over my Note 5. I upgrade yearly. Disappointed just a hand me down camera from the S7.

    • It’s very typical that Notes get the cam that was released that year in the S. That shouldn’t surprise anyone. The combination of all the (yea) incremental improvements makes for a nice device. Software tweaks to TW and S Pen, water resistance (with and without pen inserted AND the pen itself), SD storage, processor, iris scanner, bigger battery, improvements to the screen…
It’s incremental, sure. But when these days do devices ever dramatically push the space in new directions? The last hurdle is battery life and foldable flexible displays. And then everything will be incremental.

  2. Can confirm iris scanner is faster and more consistent than fingerprint scanner. Also, though I didn’t get the chance to test this when I handled the device, I was told that set up of the scanner must be done with glasses off but that subsequent scans for entry into the device will work will glasses (as I wear glasses I asked about this specifically). Contacts will work as long as they’re not colored contacts, for obvious reasons as the iris is obscured in part or completely by colored contacts.

      • I have no need to try to convince you otherwise, internet denizen. Don’t believe me if you don’t want to. Turns out I’ll still be able to get out of bed in the morning if you don’t.

  3. All in good time. We will find out the real news regarding what the Note 7 has or does not have. I just really wanted this gorgeous white model I saw. That why I don’t like rumours.
