Google I/O is over and there’s still no announcement on what’s going to be our next Android N. We heard Google employees are internally calling it as ‘NYC’ so we thought it could be New York Cheesecake but then it’s too long. Android N Developer Preview has rolled out already and is now ready for numerous phone models. In fact, several updates have been released as well.

The mockup images we saw a few months earlier predicted the future. Android N Previews are available for Android One’s General Mobile 4G, Pixel C, Sony Xperia Z3, and other OEM brands. The Android team also launched the Preview 2 but we’re now on Preview 3.

We also heard about the possibility that N could be an India delicacy but we highly doubt that now. We just know that Android N needs a name. We heard the rumor that Google was polling random users for the Android N name and looks like it’s over as the Android team thanked everyone for the submissions and said that the new name will be revealed in a few weeks.

We’re not sure if Google has decided on what to call Android N already but expect it to be announced this summer. Actually, we’re too early this year because we remember guessing what could be our next M dessert August last year. We’d be watching out for the lawn statue unveiling just like last year and see if the ‘N’ is indeed a New York Cheesecake, Nougat, or Nutella.

We checked the submissions and here are some names given: Noodles, Navy Bean, Nuts, Nachos, Nun’s Puffs, Nut Brittle, Norwegian Smoked Salmon, New Mexico Chile, and Nectar. Some names in other languages were also listed: Neyyappam, Nonnevot, Nankhatai, Naneesh Tart, Noghl, and Naan.

Android Nougat and Android Nutella are on top of our list. We’re not sure if it will be an India delicacy because it needs an international name but Google’s CEO is an Indian so who knows. Let the Android team surprise us again. Check out the submissions on Twitter by following #NameAndroidN.

  1. Neapolitan seems to make sense with the “together not the same” theme. Three different flavours and colours merged in one block of ice cream.
