Samsung is still working on a new Galaxy Watch and instead of Tizen, the wearable device may run on Wear OS. The rebranded Android Wear is in demand even if the smartwatch industry isn’t as flourishing. The wearable game isn’t as competitive as before but we can say there is still a market for such. In the recent weeks, we’ve featured a few models like the ASUS VivoWatch BP, Marc Jacobs Riley Wear OS Smartwatch, and the unannounced LG Wear OS Watch.
Smartwatches still have a market no matter how small. Ever since the Pebble smartwatch entered the gadget world, people have been thinking of different advancements, styles, and innovations. Major OEMs soon jumped into the bandwagon with Samsung as one of the forerunners and then followed by Sony, LG, Omate, LG, and Qualcomm among others. Google then stepped in by releasing a smart wearable project we learned to be the Android Wear OS and is now known as Wear OS.
We’ve seen dozens of smartwatches already. There are probably hundreds of model but we only know those that we think matter. They range coming from different brands, sizes, styles, and even platforms. We have a few favorites but right now, we’re just looking forward to new ones that will be announced in the coming weeks and months running Wear OS.
Smartwatches also differ in categories. There are standard digital smartwatches while there are hybrid ones that both feature digital and analog. There are kinds that are focused on health. We remember special wearables for the elderly and the children. The kids category is special because it’s not really the young generation that wants and looks for such. They are helpful for the parents who always want and need to know the whereabouts and activities of their kids.
Giving the kids their own smartwatch doesn’t mean an invasion of privacy. It’s more for protection, knowledge, peace of mind for parents, tracking, and parental controls. Other benefits include convenience, functionality, discretion, and affordability.
It’s a fact that numerous global brands and companies are now targeting the kids. It’s not just to sell and make money but offer convenience to both the children and the parents alike. Some of the recent products and services targeted for the kids include the Facebook Messenger Kids, Amazon FreeTime, YouTube Kids, and the Relay smart speaker.
Kids smartwatches are already a dime a dozen like the Fitbit Versa and Ace smartwatches, Omate x Nanoblock Smartwatch, Garmin vívofit jr. 2, and the LG GizmoGadget and GizmoPal 2 kid-friendly wearables.
Samsung has a new entry: the Naver Labs AKI kids’ smartwatch. This new kid-friendly watch is ideal for the whole family. The kids and the adults will enjoy a new wearable experience. It runs on a Samsung Exynos 7 Dual (7270) chipset that offers an integrated LTE modem and dual-core CPU. It’s built on a 14nm FinFET process so we know it’s fast and reliable.
The AKI offers parents peace of mind. It sends alerts when kids are going to places they shouldn’t be going. It takes advantage of Naver Labs’ very own W-Fi Positioning System (WPS). This provides the exact location of the device, detect activity, classify movement, and see what the kid is doing. It’s smart in a way that is can analyze places visited and the schedule. If there is an unexpected change or deviation, the parents will be alerted.
Other features of the smartwatch as made possible by the Exynos 7270 and its Global Navigation Satellite System solution include Wi-Fi with Bluetooth connectivity, tethering, low power consumption, Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) support, and reliable connection.
You don’t have to worry about your kids’ privacy because data is safe, thanks to the ARM TrustZone hardware-based security. Data and information are encrypted at all times. The smartwatch is durable, functional, and fun to use. The phone boasts a 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, Mali-T720 GPU, Samsung Exynos 7270, silicon strap, metal frame, and IP68 water-resistant rating. The phone can also be used to withstand humidity and high temperature.
The Naver Labs AKI smartwatch also allows voice command support, CLOVA (personal assistant service), and the Papago (multilingual machine translation cloud service).
