December is finally here folks. It’s time to get out the Christmas decorations, put lights on the tree, and hopefully we get a Christmas themed Android collectible sometime soon from those folks at Dead Zebra. Today is December 3rd and welcome to another edition of the Android Community Nightly. Below you’ll find all the news and stuff that mattered to us most.

It was another exciting day in the world of Android but first off lets start off with the little bit of bad news. The news of Nokia joining the Android army last week ended up false, and they’re only hiring a Linux engineer for their Nokia HERE Maps service. Move along folks! Then as usual Samsung was in the news basically all day. All starting with 3 new devices that leaked in detail, but nothing there was extremely new or too exciting. One that wasn’t mentioned but leaked later today was a possible Samsung Galaxy Note 7-inch — which would be an awesome tablet I’m sure. Please don’t make this a phone Samsung! That’s just too big.

Then probably the most exciting news for us here at Android Community is the video that showed off the upcoming SwiftKey Flow keyboard. SwiftKey Flow you’ll be able to glide your finger using gesture based typing and never even remove your hand for each word. Their amazing app will guess the words as you go all with ease. It looks extremely impressive so here’s the video one more time:

Our friends from Google were in the news a few times today, multiple times actually. First off the Nexus 4 went up for sale in the Canadian Play Store today, but I’m sure it sold out rather quick. Then the second most exciting bit of news for me was that Google finally, finally updated Gmail for the masses with pinch-to-zoom. A feature we should have had years ago. Give Google a nice slow clap why don’t you… Lastly for team Google, they are allowing all the awesome features of Google Maps to be used by developers of all kinds, and released a brand new updated API for their service.

In software update news it looks like multiple devices are getting, or will soon get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Today Verizon and Motorola officially started rolling out Jelly Bean for the DROID RAZR HD and MAXX HD. Then the folks from Samsung issued Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean for the Canadian Galaxy S III too. In other exciting news today the text message (SMS) turned 20 years old, Polk Audio announced Android specific headphones, and XBMC was released for Android in beta. Oh, and don’t forget you must enable the new pinch-to-zoom and features in Gmail.

See you tomorrow guys!
