We somehow expected that HTC’s number will turn for the worse. It’s not that we’re pessimistic about the fate of the company but ever since the Taiwanese company announced that revenue went down 40% earlier this year, we started seeing a pattern of a company experiencing financial distress. HTC has always been honest about the situation and is still working hard to improve its game by launching a game plan for monetization which includes adding advertisements to its Blinkfeed news reader, auto promotions, and sponsored apps.

The company was even humble enough to say sorry to shareholders for poor performance. As if the bad news weren’t enough, HTC decided to cut some jobs to improve sales and started focusing on high-end phones instead.

Despite all of these, HTC remained positive, hopeful, and busy announcing new smartphones left and right like the HTC One M9+ Supreme Camera Edition and HTC Butterfly 3. There are a number of phones rumored lined up and we’re hoping that those upcoming devices will pull up HTC’s numbers especially after seeing a net loss last quarter.

Third quarter was still unfavorable to HTC. Net loss was NT$4.48 billion which is about US$138 million compared with a NT$0.6 billion net profit the previous year. Naturally, revenue dropped from NT$41.9 billion ($1.2B) to NT$21.4 billion ($659M) last quarter.

HTC is set to launch a new smartphone on October 20. We’re assuming it will be Android Marshmallow fluffy already and hopefully, will finally help the company gain traction once more in the mobile industry.
