LG G4

After months of speculations, leaks, rumors, and some customer testing, the LG G4 has finally been revealed. In a special event in NYC today, South Korean tech giant unveiled the real leather-backed G4 as LG’s latest flagship phone. We’ve “seen and felt” the LG G4 already. We’ve got our hands on the new Android smartphone earlier and so far, we’re impressed with the luxury of leather, pro camera, and a whole lot of cool features.

We were expecting a number of things from the LG G4 such as its 16MP camera module with f/1.8 aperture, 5.5-inch QHD LCD Panel, the new LG UX 4.0, and the leather back cover which takes 3 months to make. All these turned out to be true. There was never a doubt, actually, because LG has been releasing a lot of (obvious) teaser videos. This time, we’ll focus on the specs and the features that make LG G4 a winner.

The LG G4‘s design is very similar to last year’s LG G3 but the back cover looks more classy and luxurious in leather. You won’t see any front-facing buttons but instead, you’ll see a set of power and volume buttons at the back. Software is now Android 5.1 Lollipop and an enhanced UX 4.0 that boasts of Gesture Interval Shot, Ringtone ID, and Quick Memo Plus as the main features.

The LG G4 has a 3000 mAh battery which is better than the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge’s 2550 mAh and 2600 mAh batteries. Other’s are saying that LG’s is even better because it is removable. For those in South Korea, early adopters will get a free 64GB card and screen replacement–a good deal for the Koreans.

LG G4’s edge is customizability and replaceability. A removable battery means you can easily change it when battery life has turned from bad to worse. Other premium smartphones in the market go for non-removable batteries already but LG still chose to use a removable battery.

Here is a complete list of the LG G4’s specifications:
• Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Processor with X10 LTE
• 5.5-inch Quad HD IPS Quantum Display
• 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution, 538ppi
• 16MP rear camera with F1.8 Aperture, 8MP front camera, OIS 2.0
• 32GB built-in storage, 3GB LPDDR3 RAM
• microSD slot
• WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, USB 2.0
• 4G / LTE / HSPA+ 21 Mbps (3G)

The LG G4 measures 148.9 x 76.1 x 6.3 – 9.8 mm and weighs 155g. Specs in other countries may vary but it shouldn’t be very different when the phone arrives in late May or early June. Phone will be available in several variants: Shiny Gold, Ceramic White, and Metallic Gray. The Genuine Leather back cover will come in colors like yellow, beige, sky blue, brown, red, and black.

Smartphone will be available in Korea starting April 29. No word on pricing yet but LG said it shouldn’t be far from the G3’s price point. We have yet to do a full review of the LG G4 so we’ll see if this one is that “great”.
