ASUS has been prolific when it comes to rolling out new mid-range and budget-friendly phones. We’ve just heard about the Zenfone Max Pro M1, ZenFone 5, and the ZenFone Max Plus (M1) earlier this year. Those are only a few from ASUS’ 2018 lineup of smartphones. We have yet to see the upcoming Zenfone V and the several variants of the ZenFone 5. We’re looking at a ZenFone 5 Pro, Max, Selfie, Laser, Deluxe, Lite, or Zoom as in previous ZenFones.
The other model of the ZenFone 5 is here: the ASUS ZenFone 5Q. We don’t remember any ‘Q’ variant from before so this is a first. The Q in the name, we’re assuming, refers to either of the two: Q for quad-camera or Q for Qualcomm Snapdragon. We’re betting on the quad camera system because it’s what sets the ZenFone 5Q from other phones being released in the market today. We only know a few with quad lens camera: the Honor 9 Lite, Huawei Mate 10, Blu Vivo X, Gionee S10, and recently announced HTC U12+.
The ASUS ZenFone 5Q is now available in the United States–all ready for the notch haters. Well, hate is such a strong word but we know many people who do not like the idea of a notch. ASUS implemented the notch design on the ZenFone 5 but this 5Q comes without it. The phone comes equipped with a 6-inch screen with 2160 x 1080 FHD resolution, 4GB RAM, 64GB onboard storage, microSD for memory expansion up to 2TB max, 4G LTE, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor.
The phone is currently listed on Amazon as an LTE unlocked device with Dual SIM support. It only runs on Android 7.1 Nougat OS but it should be eligible for Android 8.0 Oreo. The item is ready for pre-sale and will be available on July 31. That’s over two months from now so it’s a long time of waiting if you pre-order now.
The ASUS ZenFone 5 was uncovered at the Mobile World Congress 2018. The 5Q’s specs are basically similar to the ZenFone 5. The main selling point of the ASUS ZenFone 5Q is the quad camera system that consists of four cameras: 20MP + 8MP (wide-angle) main front dual-cameras with Full HD (1080p) selfie video recording and Softlight LED flash and the 16MP + 8MP wide-angle dual rear cameras with dual-LED flash. The ultra wide shots offer creativity with no limits.
