Some mobile devices have yet to receive Android 5.0. Owners are waiting for that precious OTA notification to finally arrive. Meanwhile, several Motorola devices are being updated left and right. If you may remember, the latest Moto G was even the first to officially get Android 5.0. The 2nd-gen Moto X quickly received the same update and then the Moto X Pure edition.
As for the Moto X (1st-gen), we heard Motorola has started testing Lollipop on the original model last March and here it is now–Android 5.1 Lollipop for the Moto X (2013). This Moto X follows the LG G Pad 8.3 GPE, Moto G GPE, Nexus Player, Nexus 5, and the Nexus 6 as recipients of Android 5.1 was released only last month.
But wait, this Android 5.1 is only readily available in Brazil. This one is understandable since Moto smartphones are popular in the country. Don’t worry, this only means the same update is heading out to carriers and Moto X phones in the United States and other countries very soon.
Like any Android Lollipop update, bugs have been fixed and enhancements on performance are very noticeable. A changelog was sighted and we’ve got more details: Material Design, Smart Lock for trusted devices, a flashlight shortcut to the quick settings, use of ART, Do Not Disturb mode, and new notification controls.
After updating to Android 5.1, you will see the new visuals and fluid animations brought about by Material Design on the widgets, colors, and new themes. Notifications will be shown on the lockscreen and can be opening with a simple swipe or two rings. You can now also set privacy of notifications for each app.
When cancelling a notification on one device, other Android devices will also automatically cancel it if there is Internet connection. Interruptions can also be set with priority during period of inactivity. Feel free to enable or disable interruptions during the weekends when you don’t want to be totally disturbed.
Other changes include the redesigned Overview, improvements on Moto Assist, Sleep Delay in Android Lollipop, multiple user accounts on an Android device, and Android Runtime now being used.
