LG was caught trademarking ‘G5 SE’ last week. We thought it was done to make fun of Apple who recently launched the mid-range iPhone SE but apparently, LG filed for the trademark as early as December 2015. There’s a possibility that the South Korean company found out about the Cupertino company’s secret beforehand so it immediately filed for the SE name. We’ll never know the truth but looks like LG is about to unveil a new device.
The LG G5 SE could be the souped down G5 variant we’ve been saying. Instead of LG G5 Lite, the new variant of the flagship phone could be called LG G5 SE. No confirmation yet but some QuickCover cases were dropped off at Mobile Fun.
You know how early sightings of protective cases usually mean—there’s an equivalent device about to be announced. Actually, the QuickCover cases are for the G5 but they are also compatible with the G5 SE. This means the G5 and the G5 SE are about the same size.
We have no doubts that LG would be rolling out a lite version of the G5 because the company has released simpler variants of the previous flagship phones. In the past, the company has used terms like Mini, Compact, or as simple as the letter ‘C’. Remember the LG G4c and LG G3 Mini?
We’re very curious now how LG has named the new device so let’s just wait and see.
