When will Xiaomi finally reveal the Mi 5? That’s one of our many questions right now. Since December, the smartphone has been spotted early on Oppomart. There were hi-res images and demo video leaked and then confirmed with an S820 chipset from Qualcomm. More leaks are expected in the next coming weeks. We know it’s arriving oon.
That GearBest listing is one obvious clue that it’s coming and looks like after this leak from Weibo, we’d finally get our hands on the new Mi 5 very, very soon. Images of a white Xiaomi smartphone were shared online. The phone looks very similar to the iPhone one leaked last week and the white model posted on GearBest.
There’s also another Weibo leak that shows a black variant. This particular post tells us that Mi 5 will boast of a metal body. Unlike the newer phones in the market today, the fingerprint scanner is at the back. There’s also believed to be the 16MP camera and LED flash. The other one could be the laser focus (laser assisted auto focus). There also seems to be an IR blaster that’s believed to be a Generation Next IR Blaster. This feature is something we haven’t seen lately in smartphones so we’re curious as to why Xiaomi is adding one.
We’re were told to expect a January 21 launch but nothing yet so let’s just wait for February 22 or the possible Chinese Spring Festival announcement. So far, here’s what we know the specs of the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be: 5.2-inch QHD display screen, 4GB RAM, 16GB/64GB built-in storage, fingerprint scanner, 16MP rear camera, 8MP selfie cam, and a 3600mAh battery. The handset will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box as indicated on the table below.
Interestingly, some Geekbench results also popped up telling us information we already know plus the Single-Core Scores (2320 and 2238) and Mult-Core Scores of 5347 and 5174. The numbers mean the smartphone has been tested already.
Design looks familiar? You be the judge.
