TAG Heuer smartwatch

TAG Heuer is not new to the tech industry. It’s been making several luxury smartphones the past few years. Remember the TAG Heuer Racer and the $6700 TAG Heuer LINK Android handsets? Just last month, the luxury watchmaker announced that it’s joining the smartwatch game together with Intel and Google. We’re already expecting this will be pricey at $1,000. Ordinary Android Wear smartwatches are priced below $400 so this one is far more expensive.

TAG Heuer will begin selling the smartwatch in October or November this 2015 for about $1,400. It’s mighty expensive but still cheaper than the $17,000 Apple Watch Edition. Crazy high prices for wearables but you know that there are people who are willing to spend that much. With this TAG Heuer smartwatch, we can say it’s the closest competitor of the Apple when it comes to luxury smart timepieces.

The TAG Heuer smartwatch may be expensive but its battery can last up to 40 hours compared to the Apple Watch and other Android Wear-powered devices with only an 18-hour average battery life. Not much details on the specs but we can expect premium hardware and the latest Android Wear features.

Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of TAG Heuer was actually supportive of the Apple Watch but in a sarcastic way. He wishes Apple will “sell millions and millions and millions of them” because “the more they sell the more a few people will want something different and come to TAG Heuer”. That makes senses but I think only when you’re talking about the luxury versions and with those people who can afford them–the rich and the famous.
