SO you’ve got your eye on that $600 Galaxy S II, yes? Think that costs a lot of money because you’re getting it off-contract before anyone else in the United States, yes? Try this one on for size: Swiss watchmakers TAG Heuer have whipped up an Android device so exquisitely constructed that it’ll set you back 4700€. That may SEEM like a lot of cash, sure, but what you get is a smartphone constructed of no less than 316L Stainless steel, Gold, Diamonds, Black PVD, Titanium, Rubber, Calfskin leather, Carbon leather, Alligator and Lizard skin.

And of course your next question should be: what version of Android is it running? Ice Cream Sandwich? Some advanced version of Android even further down the line – maybe Android 5.0 Julep or something? No way – Froyo it is! With a custom UI over the top – hackers, lets get this ported asap! This device features a “bar type” touchscreen form factor – which is just a different way of saying Candybar shape, like we’re used to, and the weight runs in at 200 grams. You’ll be able to pop in “any SIM card”, or so they say – it’s running on Edge & HSUPA working with 3G, has 4 Band GSM/Tri Band WCDMA, AGPS, Wifi, WAPI, and stereo Bluetooth.

This device, believe it or not, was approved by Google, and therefor has the Android Market upon it. You’ll also get your favorites: Google Search app, Google maps, Gmail, YouTube, and a lovely new oddity E-Blogger. The display is a 3.5-inch TFT LCD, and the resolution is 800×480 pixels. The TAG Heuer LINK has a standby time of up to 330 hours (14 days) which means it’s packing one gigantic battery, (though the 1400 mAh spec we’ve got here may disagree), and it’s got a 5-megapixel camera on the back.

You’ll be able to work with JPEG, GIF, and BMP images, and you’ll be able to listen to sound files tagged MP3, AAC, AAC+, RA, and WMA. SMS, MMS, and of course email will be working just fine, and the entire unit sizes in at 118mm (H) x 67mm (W) x 16.6mm (D). Also internal memory is 256 megs. Sort of an oddity there, wouldn’t you say? Behold some fine writing from the folks at TAG Heuer:

Luxuriously crafted and detailed, the TAG Heuer LINK incorporates the most prestigious materials and advanced components in the watchmaking and automotive worlds, including black PVD, diamonds and rose gold. The mirror-polished and fine-brushed stainless steel is premium grade surgical 316L, corrosion-resistant and hypoallergenic. The big display front is made from visually stunning, lightweight, and highly damage-resistant Gorilla glass®. The exclusive, hand-worked coverings are in calfskin, alligator or lizard. Every material, precious stone and exotic skin or leather is sourced within the strictest industry standards.

You’ll only be able to purchase this device starting in July at TAG Heuer retailers – that means watch carriers and the like.

The TAG Heuer LINK seriously upgrades the way the world connects. – TAG Heuer

The design of this device makes is shockproof, airtight, and of course chic. You’ll have a choice between steel, titanium, or 18k rose gold, and you’ll be able to choose between rubber, alligator, leather, and more. The device is also water-tight and with the Gorilla Glass display, you wont be busting this device any time soon.

  1. 1, NO. 2, WTF? 3, Ugly. 4, Crappy.

I mean, really. Android 2.2? My $150 phone runs that. Anyway, what’s really important is how good the CPU and RAM are in there. For $6700 I want a fucking 100 GHz CPU and 1 TB RAM.
