Oh my goodness look at this amazing smartphone right here. This is the same phone we got to have a brief hands-on with back at CTIA at the Hawaiian Luau aka Pepcom. Now we’ve been sent out very own in the mail and it’s oh so sweet to behold. Inside you’re going to find a Vanilla version of Android 2.2 Froyo (that meaning no mods from T-Mobile, just pure Googly goodness,) on the outside you’re going to find front and back facing cameras including a fat 8 megapixel on the back – and smoothness. Simple designs breed simply awesome experiences, if I do say so myself.

And guess what’s inside? An NVIDIA Tegra 2 1GHz AP20H dual-core processor! What do you know? We’ve certainly got a fabulously powerful experience just waiting for us inside this little piece of monster. It’s got a 4-inch WVGA TFT capacitive touch screen display, it weighs in at 5 ounces flat, and its got HDMI out for mirroring of your favorite content to larger screens – win. There’s 8GB of internal memory, a microSD slot that allows a card up to 32GB in size, and it’s a Quad-band GSM world phone: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz. Hot!

The only additions to the regular set of Google-placed apps in this phone are the following: Need for Speed Shift HD, DTS Ultra Mobile (DTS Envelo and DTS Boost – for an enhanced audio experience [NOT AN APP from what I understand thus far],) a demo version of N.O.V.A. (we’ve got the full version lying around here somewhere so don’t worry, if we show it, it’ll be full,) T-Mobile TV (live TV on-demand,) Zinio (magazine app,) and Qik (for video chat.) I estimate immediately that the average consumer will try one or two of these, continuing to use Qik pretty constantly (or switching to Skype when it becomes available,) and rocking pretty hard on the driving game.

Have a look here at some nice close-up photos of the device and let us know in the comments section or by emailing chris@androidcommunity.com what you’d like to know about the device – and we’ll find out for you!

  1. see if a wiimote can connect to it? I have been dieing for a killer phone that can connect to a TV and use a wiimote for some traveling retro gaming!!!

  2. I’m assuming that’s the flash below the lens on the back.

Who’s the design genius that thought that up? Flash below the lens results in a Halloween effect…not flattering. But hey, it’s a phone…and I’ll be picking mine up on Wednesday.

  3. Hi to all. My name is Massimiliano (aka Pigeonblood) and i’m a blogger for one of the most known italian blog that treat Android most of all but not only. 4. what’s the ringtone volume like? is it decent? i’ve read several people saying the speakers suck. i can’t imagine why seeing as how there’s two of them. have you tested the gps? experienced any bugs?

    • One thing to note: there are not two speakers on the bottom – just one. The other is the microphone, even though both openings/meshes look the same. Some people assumed these were stereo speakers – not so; I tested that theory yesterday.

  6. You’re right Chris. Speakers sounds very well. The only thing is a small volume difference between music and ringtones. I tested GPS with Navigon Crazythunder: fix in 10 sec om my lunch room and much fast on the road. One of the best GPS i ever tried

    G2X or Nexus X???

  9. So what was really the difference between this and the european version? I mean what was the point of this ridiculous wait if they didn’t change anything…? FCC approval?

  10. I could not find the answer to these questions in the specs of the phone on t-mobile’s website:

Does the G2x have an LCD or LED screen? How is the resolution and color of the screen?

Does it have gorilla glass? I have heard gorilla glass is really hard to get scratched, and won’t break easily when you drop it.

How sensitive is the screen to touch? I have some friends that when I try using their android I have to press the buttons like 5 times.

How smooth is the software? Does it run well? I have heard the European version has had some problems, and some apps crash.

    Does it have visual voicemail?

  12. im curious… does anyone really care about unboxings anymore? I mean… a usb cable is a usb cable… a sim card is a sim card… a battery is… well a battery. Lets just have it charged, start recording and show us the juicy stuff… like what this cool hyped up phone can do 🙂 just saying

    • unboxing are boring when they talk about USB cables and chargers. but for me, unboxing lets me get a good look at the device itself. Im an iphone 4 user but Im totally committed to buying an Android tablet. If I could ever find a truly beautiful Android phone, Id get one to run along side my i4 until Im weaned. unboxing videos helps me a lot in this decision.

      • unboxings where they just show the contents of the box i find to be less than exciting or helpful – thats why we go another step and pop off the battery cover, turn the phone on, show the loading screen, and etc. also the video is part of a whole which also includes photos which are much more interesting on the whole

  13. i actually love this problem, only problem ive had is the ringer volume, does anyone else have this problem?i have to set it on max or atleast 90%.maybe shouldnt have volume rocker just max or min..if anyone has a solution or a way to improve please respond to me..
