The latest Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge come with quick charging as with last year’s premium flagship phones but the South Korean tech giant didn’t use the latest version from Qualcomm. That’s ironic because Qualcomm introduced the new Quick Charge 3.0 technology last September. Samsung could have used it anytime but opted for Quick-Charge 2.0 instead. It’s not the only one who went ahead with the older version though. Even Sony used Quick-Charge 2.0 tech for the latest Xperia X, Xperia XA, and Xperia X Performance.

There’s no Quick-Charge 3.0 on the new Xperia X line yet. We have no idea why Samsung and Sony didn’t add the newest version even if the Snapdragon 650 and Snapdragon 820 can handle such. As for Samsung, there’s the idea that the Exynos processor doesn’t support the newest Quick Charge technology. We’re thinking maybe Qualcomm’s technology isn’t ready yet for flagship devices but then again we already know a few devices with Quick Charge 3.0. There’s the GM 5 PLUS, Xiaomi Mi 5, HTC One A9Huawei Honor 5X, and the newest LG G5.

Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 is still a worthy and reliable feature on mobile devices but it’s not as fast as Quick Charge 3.0. We understand that maybe Samsung didn’t want people to be disappointed since the Exynos processor on the Galaxy S7 doesn’t support it. yet. As for Sony, maybe it just forgot that Qualcomm has a newer version.
