We’re here to bear witness to an early price and release date for the long-awaited second generation of what’s proved to be the world’s most popular iteration of Android. This is the Samsung Galaxy S II (or Samsung Galaxy S 2, whichever you like,) and it’s appearing over at Play for £599.99, which is, they say, £50.00 cheaper than the suggested retail price of £649.99. Of course we, aside from our UK superhero Chris Davies, live in the USA, thusly the current converted cash to USD for this release of the Samsung Galaxy S II is right around $966.

This phone is currently available for order on pre-release at Play.com, due for release on the 31st of March, 2011. We’re not entirely sure if that means you’ll get your phone that day if you’ve pre-ordered, or if you’re going to get it the same day no matter what, or if you’ll be crying in a corner because everyone else got the phone first from the streets.

      • The subpixel density was raised, not the pixel density… that was lowered as the display got bigger. But, yes, otherwise you exactly got it right, they had to go bigger to use the RGB STRIPE display layout at the same pixel resolution. PenTile allows for a given resolution to be acheived at a lower subpixel density, thus a higher pixel density.

  1. FWIW, prices almost never translate well across regional divides. For the most part, a phone that is £600 in the UK ends up being $600 in the US. (and, for that matter, any other tech)

  2. e Samsung Galaxy Tablet is loaded with features and is a great alternative for those considering the iPad. I have been using Samsung products for the last three years and I have always been satisfied with their quality and ability to pack features into their products.

  3. Where did you get this guy? Seriously. Was that a presentation??? The way he showed that phone I thought it was the lamest phone ever.
