The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are already out and their cousins the S7 edge+ and S6 Note may be arriving soon but that doesn’t mean the tech giant has completely forgotten about the older models. In fact, several tablets and smartphones have started to receive the fluffy update this 2nd quarter and especially since the Android N Developer Preview was released. Even before the new Android platform is launched publicly, at least, Samsung promised it would release the anticipated SOFTware update.
The Galaxy S5 already received Android 6.0 but only those in South Korea specifically the Galaxy S5 LTE, the Galaxy S5 Plus, and the S5 in Trinidad & Tobago. We just don’t why it took Samsung and the carrier this long since some units received the Marshmallow beta by mistake already last year.
T-Mobile is releasing the Marshmallow for the Galaxy S5 in the US after rolling out in other regions first. If you got a Galaxy S5 from T-Mobile, you should be receiving an OTA notification any day now. Watch out for the following versions of the software: G900TUVU1GPE1 and G900T3UVU1GPE1. Make sure you have at least 1GB of free storage because the Marshmallow is quite heavy. Expect to see new features and several changes including tweaks on user interface, app permissions, Doze Mode, better battery management, and Google Nw on Tap among others.
Check manually if new version is ready by going to the Settings> About device> Baseband version. If you receive the Over-The-Air alert, proceed to Settings> About device> Software update> OK.
