Paid Android App Support Coming to 15 new countries

At the end of last week, Google sent out word to developers that paid Android app support will soon be available in more countries “over the next few weeks.” Strangely other than that, we did not get much information from Google. It took the app store analytics company Distimo to give us some real information regarding what countries are currently popping up with paid app support.

Amazon also considering it’s own Android App Store

Similar to Verizon’s bold move it looks as it Amazon may be considering to launch it’s on App store on Android devices. To compete with Google’s own, and Verizon’s VCAST app store the Amazon app store will offer some perks to developers as well. The online retailer will allegedly pay a royalty “equal to the greater of 70 percent of the purchase price or 20 percent of the List Price.” This “List Price” is said to help protect Amazon against the developers offering their apps for cheaper on the other markets.

Galaxy Tab A La Carte Pricing Revealed? Don’t be too excited…

We know the Galaxy Tab is looking to be a very impressive device. From the screen size, to the functionality, to it running our favorite mobile OS, it’s an all around amazing device. Well it seems that AT&T has begun training it’s employees to ready them for sale of the tablet. Word is that the à la carte data pricing structure has been released as well, let’s just say they are far, far, from impressive.

Motorola Defy Gets Durability tested on Video

Two weeks ago Motorola announced it’s upcoming ultra durable phone, the Defy. The device is advertised as “designed to handle everything that life throws your way” and is looking very durable, but how durable is it really? Well the fine folks over at Expansys decided to give it a few tests to see if it could handle what they threw it’s way, the result: it did.

Activate the Droid 2’s FM radio! Yes, It has one

Did you know that the Droid 2 has an built in FM Radio like the Droid X? Well it was news to us when we stumbled across the XDA Developers forums as well. It appears that forum user slayher has found a way to unlock the use of the FM Radio by porting the Droid X Radio App to the Droid 2. Now although this requires root, for now, the official update may be coming soon.

4G Setting Menu Found hidden in HTC Droid Incredible’s Software

We all know that Verizon is planning on launching their ultrafast 4G network starting later this year and into 2013. In fact, although we just got official word last week it looks like device manufacturers were already anticipating a 4G network and testing, or at least implementing the software needed to connect to it. The Droid Incredible’s 4G settings menu, found below, was accessed via a simple Gesture Search (a Google app/search method).

Sharp announces 2 new Android Ereader tablets, named Galapagos

Sharp has officially announced 2 new eReader tablets that it has been working on. The 2 tablets, one “mobile” and one “home”, short for small and big, are code named Galapagos. This is not only the bizarre name of the hardware but also Sharp’s new eBook ecosystem. The home model is a 10.8-inch LCD with a resolution of 1366 x 800, while the mobile version is only 5.5 inches with a 1024 x 600 resolution display. Video demonstration after the cut.

HTC Merge for Verizon Poses for Photos, Showcases Full QWERTY Keyboard

The HTC Merge, model number ADR6325, was spotted in a Verizon Wireless inventory screenshot at the end of August, and now it seems the device has taken some time to pose for a photo shoot. Bearing the same look and feel as the HTC Lexikon, which leaked not too long ago, the Merge offers up the same global reach as the World Edition of the Droid 2, as it features a slot for a GSM SIM card.

Verizon’s Droid R2-D2 coming September 30th

We have heard about it, we have seen it, even dummy units shipping to stores. Well now we finally know when it will be available from Verizon. The Droid R2-D2, Star Wars themed DROID 2 will be coming to Verizon online and select stores September 30th.
