While most people are excited that Motorola is coming out with the 2nd Gen of their Moto G, don’t forget that the 1st gen is awesome as well. The OEM is not letting you forget about the original, as they’re offering a $40 discount when you buy a no-contract version of the Moto G with 4G LTE from their online store. And if you’re looking for a new mid-tier device, you should take advantage of this offer.

The Moto G runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU. It has a 4.5-inch with 1280 x 720 HD, 329 ppi Corning® Gorilla® Glass display. It has 8GB of internal storage, but supports microSD cards of up to 32GB. The main camera has 5MP while the front-facing one has 1.3MP, and video capture is at 720p HD. Out of the box, it has Android 4.4 KitKat, but Motorola is rolling out an update for the Moto G 1st Gen in the next few weeks to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The 2nd generation Moto G or Moto G 2015 4G (they should really come up with simpler names right?) is almost the same as its predecessor except that it has a bigger display at 5″ and its rear camera is much improved at 8MP with the front camera getting a slight upgrade to 2MP. It also runs on KitKat out of the box, but there will be an upgrade to Lollipop eventually.

You can get the Moto G 1st Gen with 4G LTE for only $159.99 from their online store only until March 25. The Moto G 2nd Gen will not have a discount of course, but you can buy it at just $179.99, off-contract from the site as well.

      • What country are you in?
The US so far has no news,
Then again I’m waiting for 5.1 to hit really.
        5.0.2 I hear is a bug disaster

      • Its not buggy even tho network signal is a bit messed up (it doesn’t show if you got hspa edge etc sometimes) and it is very beautiful!

    • I have got 5.0.2 on 12th Feb in India every thing working superb within 2 weeks will get update to 5.1. Battery back up improved

  1. So if anyone is looking at this and is thinking about doing it and trying to get that discount don’t fucking do it!!! I have had it for 6 months now and it is the worst slowest piece of shit phone I’ve ever had! I have had better flip phones than this! literally after 6 months it is the slowest most crappy piece of shit I have ever had. Half the time it will not download anything anymore, you seriously have no storage for anything cuz it comes with no SD card which the guy behind the counter failed to mention to me when I asked about it and he told me that there was an SD card and he lied so after you get the update for kitkat plus whatever you have to actually have for the phone to work properly then they also have the lollipop update coming out for this phone sometime whenever they actually do it since they have been talking about it for months now, so that will take up more storage so when it comes down to it when you’re running on your last bit of memory it literally says nothing can be downloaded when they’re still like five to six hundred megabytes of unused storage! so basically in the long run if you purchase phone you are going to have a fun time for a day or so and then you’re just going to get pissed off cuz everything you get about I would say about 3.5 gigabytes without the lolipop update and then with that included I think about 3 gigabytes just for yourself! This phone is a rip off!!! The only reason they’re selling it so cheap is because of everything I’m telling you and they know its a cheap POS! So unless you are 95 years old and only going to use your phone for texting your family members and you’re never going to download any apps any music any movies anything fun or enjoyable and you’re only going to use it for texting and calling (no offense at all to the elderly people just stating facts that’s usually what people use it for is texting and calling) then yeah I would say go for it but other than that you are wasting your time and you are going to be super frustrated super quick!!!

  2. Anyone has any doubts about moto g lollipop 5.0.2 can message me .. Tbh I tried my level best to screw up my phone to get a new one for myself (moto turbo).. My phone just can’t be spoilt #Touchwood …
My number is +918767478115 .. Can WhatsApp me and I’ll be clearing all your doubts

  3. My Moto G (1st gen) received 5.0.1 several months ago (OTA) and it slowed the phone down considerably. It ran well with 4.4.4 installed, so please be careful what you wish for… I’d hold out for 5.1 and stick with 4.4.4 in the meantime. I’m in the US on T-Mobile.
