Motorola has announced that the Droid Bionic will be delayed until summer in order to receive several “enhancements.” Although there is little detail as to what the enhancements may involve, the decision was made after receiving several “compelling feedback” when the phone was showed at CES in Las Vegas in January. Rumors citing inside sources have been saying that Motorola was going to delay or even right out cancel the Droid Bionic due to technical issues, but Motrola denies that. If Motorola did cancel the Bionic, insiders say it will likely be replaced with the Targa, a high-end 4G phone which has an advanced 13 megapixel camera and will be out later in the year.

The news seems a bit abrupt considering that as early as last month, Verizon employees were saying that the Bionic was to be released by the middle of this month. But then we got the news last week that was less than positive as store employees could only say it was to be coming out “soon.” But if Motorola was truly canceling the heir apparent to the Droid brand, why would they be stalling for time with a promise of enhancements?

So let the speculation begin. Perhaps Motorola decided to go ahead and upgrade to the Targa camera. Perhaps, Verizon learned enough from bringing their 4G network online and provided that information to improve Droid 4G connectivity? Or maybe it revolves around Google’s long awaited hybrid between Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) which is more than likely being called Ice Cream. We could do this all day. But one thing is certain, there won’t be a Droid Bionic in anyone’s Easter basket come Sunday.

  1. I’m not worried about waiting because my Verizon contract doesn’t run up till May 23rd. But, I really hope that the enhancements include battery life, because that’s my main concern. I would love for it to have some outstanding specs but still be able to last an entire day on one charge.

  2. I’m almost willing to put money on it that they are just going to ax HDMI mirroring and use webtop instead. They probably have a million laptop docks from the Atrix that didn’t sell gotta do something with them lol

  3. Verizon sucks most carriers have dual core processor phones like t mobile and att, I been waiting for the bionic and is just not coming any time soon, and don’t even tell me about phone prices Verizon wawantsyou to pay $300 for new 2 year contract yea righ!!!! RIP VERIZON,

  5. Likely waiting for the bionic will be worth it. Keep in mind It’s LTE. The real deal. Other carriers will swaywith specs. I’m convinced it was delayed for the right reasons.

  6. Frankly I’m looking forward to the Bionic. I’m glad they didn’t rush it out into the market with problems and decided to fix these issues first. The HTC Thunderbolt is a perfect example of sticking a product out too early. People are have issues hearing calls when in loud rooms or outside, battery life is terrible, the stand cannot be used when charging and watching movies in landscape, bloatware is taking the majority of available memory, is constantly running, drains the battery and cannot be removed!! I certainly hope that the Droid Bionic is not loaded down with bloatware and if it is it needs to be removable.

  7. Or maybe, just maybe, Verizon will make this a global ready phone! If they do that, the Bionic will be my next phone. Verizon, please make more global ready phones.

  8. I’ve come to the conclusion that the Motorola Droid Bionic is a ‘mirage’. It’s like the oasis of perfection that a wandering, dehydrated, delirious traveler sees in the desert. It’s a tease that never delivers . . . .

A friend recently bought the Samsung Droid ‘Charge’. I’ve had the opportunity to use her Samsung Droid Charge phone quite a bit. I find it very impressive. I’ve become familiar with most of the Droid Charge’s ‘set-up’ and its features.

I will qualify for my Verizon “New Every Two” three weeks from now. If the Motorola Droid Bionic release date is not announced, with some specifics on the phone’s capabilities, before then, I will buy the Samsung Droid Charge.

I’m tired of being “baited” by Motorola Mobility’s rumors of the “next great thing” and Motorola’s non-deliverable” mirage (aka the Droid Bionic or Droid Targa).
