Here is the first-ever teardown we’ve seen of the LG G5. The spotlight has moved from the Galaxy S7/S7 edge to the new flagship by LG so expect to see more related videos, reviews, and durability tests. We’ve seen a few interesting videos of the new LG already aside from the official ones like the commercial featuring Jason Statham. Of course, who could forget the “World’s Fastest Unboxing” by T-Mobile and a cute video of a puppy unboxing the phone and LG Friends by Verizon.
It’s time to get serious and see what’s really inside the smartphone. JerryRigEverything knows too well how to open mobile devices. He wants to see the build-quality inside and tell us how the components can be replaced. Jerry first noted that the phone feels plastic and not metal. LG describes the phone as full metal but the LG G5 doesn’t feel too premium. It turns out the full metal body is covered by a thick plastic as revealed by a simple scratch test as seen in the video.
Jerry started by taking out the SIM card. Using a special pry tool, he tried to remove the screen by forcing the frame to the side a bit. He noted that taking out the parts is similar to the HTC M9.
In between, Jerry scratced the back panel and found out you will only see the metal deep inside. It’s aluminium alright but because of the plastic, you can’t say it’s premium. He even said that LG shouldn’t be advertising it as a pure metal phone.
If you’re familiar with teardowns, you’ll quickly notice the parts in their respective places. There’s the camera, fingerprint sensor, a spring loaded sensor that tells, battery is in place, phone jack, vibrator, power button, front facing cam, OIS, and dual camera.
What’s so interesting about the LG G5 is that parts can be snapped like legos. No need for special tools to take out parts. Putting everything back in their positions is also easy. Snap everything like lego, place the screen carefully, and slightly push open the frame to the side.
