Oh yes, we were right. That “Incredible Touch” tagline by Huawei has something to do with the latest touch technology called Force Touch. We never really imagined touch would be enhanced but here it is now and the Huawei Mate S is one of the first few bearing the new touch functions after ZTE and Apple. Huawei first described this smartphone as something “that understands you” and we’re about to see if it’s true as the new flagship has just been announced in Berlin.

The IFA 2015 officially started and Huawei already took the stage by announcing the Huawei Mate S. The Chinese phone maker aims to offer “a personalized experience, rather than a commoditized one” according to Huawei Consumer BG CEO Richard Yu.

The new technology includes new touch features that allows more creativity and functionality. The flagship comes with Force Touch that responds to different pressure levels on the screen. With increased pressure, the phone user can do different actions like launch an app or zoom in an image. Force Touch apps that will take advantage of the technology are expected to be available in the near future. (Note that the Force Touch version will be a special variant of the Huwai Mate S and will only be available in select markets.)

Huawei Mate S also includes Knuckle Sense 2.0. It’s an updated version of what we saw in the Huawei P8. With a simple tap of a knuckle, the phone can respond to a certain command. For example, you can write the letter “c” on the screen to open the camera app. You can even personalize shortcuts to open any app that you want. Or if you want to share, save, or edit an image or video, you can outline an image or double tap a video. The device also comes with Fingerprint Sense 2.0 with a more accurate and faster recognition. It allows easier and more secure payments, as well as, fast unlocking with a fingerprint sensor.

As for the specs, Huawei Mate S’s design is similar to the Huawei Mate 7. We actually thought it would be a Mate 7s but I guess Huawei decided to drop the “7”. We know the Huawei Mate 7 smartphone will have a full metal shell, 5.5-inch AMOLED FHD screen, 2.5D Gorilla Glass, 3MP rear camera, dual color-temp LED flash, and 8MP front camera, 32GB built-in storage, and a 3000mAh battery.

The new Huawei Mate S will be available for pre-order this coming September 15 in Western Europe via Vmall.eu. It will soon be ready in over 30 countries like the UAE, China, France, Israel, Germany, Japan, South Africa, and Spain among others. As for the pricing, the 32GB version will be 649 euros ($728) while the 64GB prestige gold/coral pink premium version will be 699 euros ($784).
