Now we know it is possible, because someone has actually published a video of an Android Wear smartwatch running the 1998 vintage classic shooting game “Half-Life”. It’s not quite Half-Life 3 yet, but it’s definitely something. You would ask “why?”, but there is no answer to that. People just go ahead and do stuff, they don’t need any other reason to be awesome.

Chalk this up to the countless other useless things we can do on an Android Wear smartwatch – like playing an even older classic in Doom, or play Minecraft, or even launch an old Windows 95 operating system, watch a full-length movie, or even play an old emulated PlayStation 1 game – all using a smartwatch’s itty bitty screen. Again, there is no logic for this. It is not needed. See the video below.

David Bennett modded a first generation LG G Watch to do this – using an emulator app called “SDLash3D” and installing it on the smartwatch so it can run Half-Life. The game is unusable at best, obviously, because framerates drop in certain areas of the game. And even then, the screen is too small to give you proper access to controls and stuff. Don’t ask us if we tried. We will not answer that question.

If you want to try doing this – no need to ask the question why – just. Do. It. Check out Bennett’s full instructions at his website (source link below). Don’t blame us if you screw up your LG G Watch too. Back up data, because it’s safer that way. Go on, enjoy life. Run Half-Life on your smartwatch just for the heck of it.
