Once more, with feeling. After Verizon apparently cancelled the December 9th launch of the highly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the rumor mill is buzzing with December 15th as the popular date for the latest non-delay delay. After some independent investigating from Android Community, this appears to be the case. This is not a confirmation, but a second-party Verizon reseller said that the phone would be released next Thursday. We’ve also heard December 15th from another source, who wishes to remain anonymous.

This morning we called up Verizon’s customer support looking to order the Galaxy Nexus, on the off chance that the rumors surrounding its continued delay were greatly exaggerated. While we couldn’t order the phone itself, the Verizon representative said that it had indeed been scheduled for release today, but that the date had been changed at the last minute. The representative did not have a new date available to her, or would not give it.

We then called a second-party retailer, which has its own chain of stores but also sells Verizon devices and service. The store had Verizon’s LTE version of the Galaxy Nexus in stock, but couldn’t sell it due to restrictions from Verizon. When we pressed for a release date, the manager kindly called Verizon on our behalf. The manager responded that Verizon would authorize them to sell the Galaxy Nexus at the opening of business on Thursday, December 15th.

Once again, we stress that this is not a solid, confirmed date – it’s information acquired second-hand from someone who’d like to sell the Galaxy Nexus just as much as you’d like to buy it. But this new date jives the reports from other sites and we’ve now heard it from multiple sources, so it’s the best we can hope for at the moment. There’s nothing keeping Verizon from bumping its internal date back once again, if indeed Thursday is the day that the phone is scheduled to go one sale.

  1. How many times have I seen topics like this? I don’t know for sure but whatever the number, it’s too many. I can kind of understand delaying the phone a day or two because of the outage but a week? That’s just overkill. The phone is in stores. Let. Me. Buy. It.

    • lol, I was thinking the exact same thing. On a side note, I went into my local Verizon Wireless with my Dad to upgrade his “Not Smart-Phone”(his exact words, lol) we ended up getting him a Samsung Intensity II and when the girl that was helping us commented about using my $50 credit for his phone, I cut her off saying I was saving that to buy my Galaxy Nexus when it finally got released. Another girl behind the counted commented about how she had been playing with one yesterday and said it was “awesome” and “sleek”.  She also commented that it was supposed to come out today but they got a communication either last night or first thing this morning(honestly I don’t remember which she said, at that point I was kinda awestruck that she said anything at all about it) that said it was being delayed.  Then she kinda clammed up. I’m wondering if she realized she opened her mouth when she wasn’t supposed to yet.  Apparently my jedi mind trick is becoming more powerful with each passing day…..muahahaha. Anyway, I’m kinda ticked because I took a vacation day today #1 because I still had 6 to use before the end of the year and #2 I wanted to be able to get to Verizon first thing this morning to get one.  Guess I’ll be getting my wife to head out to Verizon first thing on Thursday before she goes to work, assuming it actually releases then.  Good luck to all those of you who are anxiously awaiting the Galaxy Nexus with bated breath as me and Z are.

  2. It would have really been more intelligent to release the phone closer to it’s unveiling and official announcement – December 15th is just show of 2 months AFTER it was announced (with no release date.)  Also note that the announcement date was pushed back a week due to some random guy’s death, so if that guy hadn’t kicked the bucket then the phone would be MORE than 2 months past announcement.  this is what you call buzz kill.  This will likely hurt sales as there are likely a number of other ICS / 4G phones coming soon, also likely other good options from other carriers which is what will hurt Verizon the most.  Here is a helpful hint Verizon: NO ONE is going to switch carriers for the Bionic, OR the RAZR, and there was a time when they might have for the Galaxy Nexus – but now, they could just wait another month or two and get a good ICS phone on their current carrier without paying the ETF fees – I know I saw lots of people talking of paying those fees to get the Galaxy Nexus back when it was popular, but now, no one is talking about paying ETF fees for this phone.  Way to screw yourself out of new subscribers.

  3. This fits with what I was told this evening.  On my way home from work, I stopped by the nearest Verizon store and went in to try to talk to some of the employees.  I asked the first employee that I encountered if he had any information on the release date for the Galaxy Nexus.  He told me that it was supposed to be today, Dec 9, but it had been rescheduled to Dec 15.  He also told me that they already have some of the phones in stock.  When I asked him if I could preorder a phone, he told me that he couldn’t take a preorder, but that I could make an appointment with one of the clerks on duty for 9:00 AM (opening time) on Thursday, Dec 15.  He signed me up for an appointment, and he already had at least a half dozen “appointments” scheduled for that same time.  I’m hopeful that those of us with the 9:00 AM appointments will get the first shot at buying the phones.  He said that they didn’t actually have very many phones, but I hope that I will be able to get one.  It looks promising.

  4. At if retailer already have them in stock, then once they do finally release the darn thing they should have a butt load of GNs in stock right?

    • Buy the Rezoundbetter hardware and at the rate Verizon is going on the Nexus it will have ICS on it beforenyoumhave a Nexus in your Hand 🙂

  5. Its a bit easier to send a message to Verizon, Google & Samsung regarding the clownfest this phones release has become. Hold onto your $ and/or upgrades, the Galaxy S II HD is already going through the paces in Korea and there’s a good chance we’ll hear word of an official U.S. release of the Galaxy Note. Send em a message and save yourselves some later regret, there are much better devices releasing so soon after they get around to launching the GN….that it isn’t really worth the $

    • What’s to keep the devices you mentioned from suffering the same drawn out, silent carrier, clownfest release the GNex is seeing?  If you wait for the next best device, you can be waiting indefinitely as there is always something slightly better around the corner.

  6. Confirmed.  Went to the Verizon store here on 12/11, and the salesman showed me the GNex behind closed doors, and promised to sit one aside for me come Thursday.  Can’t wait!

  7. I have always been a big HTC fanboy no doubt. I purchased my Htc Evo 4g on June 4th 2010 then upgraded to my beloved Htc Evo 3d on June 24th 2011. People are under the illusion that android is android but trust me that is not true. Since November 11th I have switched to Verizon opened my line with a crappy Lg Revolution all for the chance to get the upcoming Galaxy Nexus on Thursday December 15th. I will sell my Lg Revolution toward the purchase of mr Galaxy Nexus in trade in and just add a line for my Galaxy Nexus. I jumped on Verizon who had started the double the data promotion on November 11th so I came aboard with 10gb for 50 dollars which is more than enough data monthly. On Sprint I had unlimited and never used more than 4gb monthly so I will be purfectly fine with Verizon and it’s robust LTE network. I moved into an areas which I couldn’t get a signal on my Evo 3d inorder to use 4g and I waited for 2months but the only way the problem could’ve been solved was to do exactly what I did change carriers. So I look forward to my very first stock android experience device with the Google Galaxy Nexus. Anyone thinking that this device cannot standup to the future devices coming out in 2012 is ONLY FOOLING THEMSELVES the one thing the Nexus will always have is future updates first, blazing fast LTE service daily and this device is future proof. Trust me it will be March or April before the big 3 have any of the current devices on the market updated to ICS…Rather it be Samasung, Motorola, or HTC announcing a new product at CES or MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS with ICS does not mean that product will be out right away. Plus they have so much to make up with updates for all the current devices on the market ie..EVO 3D, REZOUND, AMAZE 4G, SENSATION 4G, PHOTON EPIC TOUCH 4G, GALAXY S2, RAZR, DROID 4, DROID 3, and on and on the update process is long and with the new ICS and the change of the buttons will take all carriers a while to have ice cream on these current devices. The Galaxy Nexus will be the winner here for the next 4 to 6months you can bank on that.
