After a bigtime tease and upset yesterday, it appears that owners of the Samsung Captivate will be getting a taste of the frozen one tomorrow. Yesterday had a rescinded webpage from Samsung, but last week there was word from AT&T that Froyo would be coming this week. Currently the news is coming from AT&T’s official Facebook page that indeed the Android 2.2 update will be coming soon, for real, as in so soon you’ll start seeing it tomorrow.
Along with this comes a torrent of people having heart attacks that their X10s and their Dell Streaks were left out in the cold and that they’d be switching to new carriers if AT&T didn’t give them their ransom money. BUT AT&T did provide this fun video made with Android Senior Project Manager Dante Martin – he answers some questions on updates and speaks on none other than the Aria and how it’ll be functioning in the near and far future. Have a peek:

AT&T notes that the Aria will be getting Froyo “very soon” and that Motorola needs development time between the release of a new Android version and the release for each phone in addition to testing by AT&T (or whichever carrier we’re dealing with) – this is the reason why your skin is falling off while you’re waiting for updates. Of course if you’re a part of the hacker community, you’ll be getting these updates much sooner than official – have at it!
Finally yay!!!!
Finally yay!!!!
Finally yay!!!!
I think we have learned not to get too excited unitl we actually have the update.
Cool, Great, I’m happy for Captivate owners, but once again Verizon owners (Fascinate) are left in the dust. Last and definitely least.
This Martin guy ought to be fired. He doesn’t manage the product right at all, Captivate in this case. He has put a bigger dent on AT&T’s already horrible image. After the current contract, AT&T can kiss my behind good bye. Thanks a lot Martin for raising my blood pressure for every time I look at the dam phone.

Don’t even care anymore. Rooted and ROM’ed the phone a while ago. No ads and no AT&T or Samsung apps. Screw BOTH companies!
Ok, so it took you forever to “certify” a build of 2.2 for the phone. Now 2.2.1 is out and on other carriers handsets. How long can we expect to wait for this minor build update? In fact, with the amount of testing done, one would think you would have been able to release 2.2.1 now.
rooted my phone months ago, free WAP, no additional junk from the cell co.
Yay, after following the instructions precisely to update I find that my notification and ring tones don’t work anymore. Let me take back that “Yay”. After waiting all this time so patiently, just to get let down. Hopefully figure out the problem or I’ll have to erase everything and reformat. Thanks ;-(
Have you heard of any sort of fix for your problem? I’m experiencing the same thing. Thanks, Lisa
I did find a solution; I opened the messaging application, opened settings menu (at bottom of screen) and then (at bottom of list) changed the ringtone under notification settings. I was changing it previously in the main settings menu under sounds. After installing Froyo, my ringtone was set to silent and my notification tone was set to cloud. I now have my R2-D2 notification tone and Hawaii 5-0 theme ringtone back, lol. Hope this helps you. And yes Samsung, I do still love my Droid.
