LG really is getting busier each week. After the BELLO II launched last week and the G4 Beat mid-range phone released earlier this month, here comes a new flip phone–the LG Gentle. The name may mean mild or tender but this smartphone packs a lot of cool features like a larger T9 keypad, enhanced user interface, intuitive settings, and that very useful ‘Q’ button to launch apps.
There seems to be a slow trend of flip smartphones being reintroduced in the mobile industry because admit it or not, a clamshell phone can be classy even it’s already an old form. Don’t expect too much from the LG Gentle though because specs are not as impressive: 3.2-inch touchscreen display, 320 X 480 resolution, 180ppi pixel density, Snapdragon 210 processor, quad-core 1.1GHz CPU, Adreno 304 GPU, 1GB RAM, WiFi, microSD card slot, 4GB built-in storage, 5MP rear-facing camera, 0.3MP front-facing camera, and a 1700mAh battery. Specs are rather old but there’s just something special about flipping out your phone open when you’re about to receive a call.
The LG Gentle will be available in South Korea from LG U+ starting July 29 for only $171. This isn’t the first flip smartphone from LG. Back in January, the company unveiled the Ice Cream Smart and there was the LG Wine last year.
The name LG Gentle is nothing related to the ‘Wine’ and ‘Ice Cream Smart’ models but the new flip phone gives a certain air of peace and calmness. I think the name ‘gentle’ fits the phone perfectly because when you use the phone, there’s not much you can do with it. Life is less complicated—so peaceful, serene, and gentle. Sure, apps are available but I’m not sure if you want to play games on a very small and low-res screen.

I have a Note 3 and have decided that I do not need a phone that cause my pants to fall down, get tracked by LE and ad-servers, nor play 3D games. I need a phone for calls, texts and casual searches. For everything else, I can lug a small tablet with GPS. I hope that more of these arrive stateside.
