The Google Glass Project is not totally over. The search giant is already working on the next version which we expect will be better than ever. So far, we learned that Italian eyewear company Luxottica started working on the next Google Glass. We also know that it will be an “Enterprise Edition” and it will be powered by an unknown Intel Atom processor. All these we learned after the Google Glass division went under new management earlier this year.
The Google Glass Enterprise Edition is also believed to have a bigger prism display that actually extends further according to several sources. It will be more comfortable for use unlike the Explorer Edition that reportedly caused eye strain for some users after using the pair for a long period of time. We have no information if there will be a change in screen resolution but since this will be the second-generation Google Glass, it must be better than before.
On the topic of the Intel Atom chip that will be used, there’s no mention which model it will be but we heard it will be a low-power processor but definitely faster than the one being used in most Android Wear smartwatches in the market. The reason for this switch to an Intel chip is probably to improve battery life and heat management. We can also expect enhanced overall performance since that’s what next versions ought to be: better.
How soon can we see this Google Glass Enterprise Edition? We don’t know but a mysterious device recently visited the FCC. It’s not a smartphone nor a tablet and it was listed as a Bluetooth device that supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiFi.
We’re still clueless about the numbers and specs but we’re excited to see this yet-to-be-announced Enterprise Edition. Google is working on the new version, no doubt. We’re also anticipating if this one will come with an external battery pack. You see, one problem of the first Google Glass was battery life. And since it’s impossible to add a bigger battery to the new version, it will make more sense if an extra battery pack can just be attached. Rumor has it that the Enterprise Edition of the Google Glass will come with one this time so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
