SAMSUNG Unpacked 2015 Invitation

We’re counting the days until the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. This special event will be a launching pad for the latest mobile devices that are expected to wow us this 2015. One of the highly anticipated smartphones to be released this year is Samsung’s next Galaxy flagship phone: the Galaxy S6. Much has been said about this upcoming phone from the South Korean giant and we heard a lot of rumors already.

Earlier, we heard about two Galaxy S6 variants will be unveiled at the MWC together with a round smartwatch. We also heard of that rumor of a reduced TouchWiz and that production will start this February. Some more details were leaked and that it will have a glass back but no replaceable battery. Of course, there’s also a rumor that Samsung is ditching Qualcomm so let’s not expect a Qualcomm-powered Galaxy S6. It’s probably not waterproof either.

We’re pretty sure that there is a Samsung Galaxy S6 because Vodafone Netherlands confirmed it and phone has recently visited India. The phone is expected to arrive with a metal frame or unibody shell too and of course, the curved edge display everybody is talking about.

Well, we don’t have to guess for that long because Samsung just sent out invitations to the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked happening on March 1 at the CCIB(Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona) in Spain. Presentation will begin at 4:30PM. For those ‘uninvited’, the event will be live streamed on YouTube.

This is definitely a curved edge display although this is just a mockup based on the original Samsung invitation. It’s something like the Galaxy Note Edge but recently, we heard of information that instead of just the right side being curved, the display will be curved on both sides according to a design patent filing from Samsung. There’s also a popup panel but we don’t know its purpose yet.

So dual curved displays on the Samsung Galaxy S6? That sounds cool! One curved display is enough but two on one display is even better. Nothing is certain yet since design patents don’t always mean the final product will look like anything that’s on paper.

The MWC is happening soon so let’s just wait and see which rumors and leaked images are actually true.

  1. Sooo, are users supposed to hold this phone with top and bottom, instead of on the sides? If you’ve ever held a Note Edge in your hand, it’s hard to avoid accidentally touching the screen on the side.

Samsung is just vomiting features at this point, with no concern for the user experience.
