HTC may have already started the slow roll out of the HTC One M8 in the US but those in Asia near the company’s home will have to wait a bit longer. With the singular exception of Singapore, the rest of Asia will just have to twiddle their thumbs in anticipation for an early May launch.

In the US, Verizon has had the privilege of putting the HTC One M8 up on sale on the very day it was unveiled. Other US carriers will be holding off until April 11, an auspicious day since Samsung will also be launching the Galaxy S5 globally on that day as well. Except, ironically, in South Korea.

But just because Taiwan-based HTC calls Asia its home doesn’t mean it will prioritize distribution there. Of course, it will first focus on key markets like the US. Back in Asia, HTC awards the early bird honor to Singapore, who will be selling the One M8 for 998 SGD, around $793, starting April 5. A month later, HTC plans to start releasing the One M8 in other Asian countries, though it has not yet disclosed when and where.
