Samsung and Qualcomm each unveiled a smartwatch last week. Samsung had the Galaxy Gear and Qualcomm had the Toq and while each had some good points and bad points, we cannot help but keep looking back towards a recently launched Kickstarter. Or maybe more accurately, the folks at Omate won’t let us forget due to the rapid series of updates they have been providing. And with that, the latest Omate Kickstarter update is offering a look at the launcher.
We had previously been told the Omate TrueSmart would be launching with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and version 1.0 of the Omate UI. What had yet to seen though, was that user interface in action. Well, coming by way of a recently published video, we are now getting just that — a look at the launcher. The video is about 1-minute and 30-seconds long and offers what is being referred to as a “first look at the home launcher.”
Further details here point towards the launcher coming by way of a company called Vire Labs. And if you look closely in the video, that Vire name can be spotted. The video is shown using prototype hardware, but those looking for the final design hardware will want to pay close attention at the beginning of the video. From what we can see, the navigation and basic setup looks like it should be familiar for those already using Android.
Basically, that is to say you will have homescreens along with an app drawer. Moving to different homescreens is done with a swipe and moving an application from the app drawer to homescreen is done by long pressing and dragging. Again, all should be familiar for Android users. The nice part here — it all seems to be fairly well adapted to this smaller screen. Of course, real-world use will be the true test for that last statement.
Anyway, aside from Android 4.2.2 with the Omate UI, the TrueSmart watch will have a 1.54-inch (240 x 240) display, dual-core 1.3GHz processor, 512MB of RAM (with an option to upgrade to 1GB), 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 600 mAh battery and 5 megapixel rear-facing camera. We also recently learned that the folks at Omate have chosen to add Sapphire Glass for all backers.

Don’t like all kind of this sort of smartwatches, I don’t need another smartphone on my wrist that lasts nearly a day.
I prefer those pebble or agents smartwatches and I’m looking forward to receive my agent watch on Christmas. 🙂
Ugh, another black and boxy watch that I’ll never want to wear with women’s business attire.
