How far can you go to make your smartphone paper-thin? Or rather, how far should you go? Despite the recent #bendgate scandal that has seen many a phone deformed, Chinese manufacturer Vivo seems to be still hellbent on retaining its crown of “world’s thinnest smartphone“, no matter the cost. Well, it might have pretty much bagged that title with its upcoming X5 Max expected to be announced next month. This boasts of a profile that is absurdly only 4.75 mm thin, but with a screen size of 5.5 inches.
That is the same screen size of the “bendable” iPhone 6 Plus, which is actually thicker at 7.1 mm. Can we expect Vivo to fare better? Well, it better, considering how fragile such a smartphone could be. That said, it isn’t the only one in this insane rat race. Just last month, OPPO announced the R5, which is only 4.85 mm thin. Now we see why Vivo doesn’t want to take the matter sitting down.
At least the rest of the Vivo X5 Max’s specs do not disappoint to some extent. The smartphone landed in TENAA, meaning we have an almost complete list, including pictures. The device will be powered by a 64-bit 1.7 GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6752 and assisted by 2 GB of RAM. Storage is sadly only 16 GB, though you can put in a microSD card up to 128 GB in capacity. It is somewhat impressive that Vivo still managed to squeeze in a 13 megapixel camera sensor on the back, plus a 5 megapixel shooter on the front. The screen has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels.
The specs amusingly leave out the battery capacity, and we hope that Vivo didn’t forget to include one just to shrink down the smartphone to size. In comparison, the OPPO R5 has a 2,000 mAh so we can probably expect something along those lines, though OPPO’s smartphone also boasts of rapid charging technology to make up for the smaller battery capacity.
The ear piece jack should b missing like Oppo R5.
kinda interesting that ext card support n 16G instead of a large non removable
great…technology improves day by day…
