We learned about Tag Heuer‘s upcoming entrance into the smartwatch market. We’re expecting it would be big and obviously luxurious and that the company would be partnering with Google and Intel and that it will begin selling the product October or November this year for about $1,400. The official name of the smartwatch wasn’t disclosed but Tag Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver mentioned to Wearable in an interview that it would be the Tag Heuer Carrera Wearable 01.
Biver referenced the upcoming wearable device as the Tag Heuer Carrera Wearable 01. The luxury brand promises that it’s gonna be stunning as any Tag Heuer watch but having an Intel processor inside will make it a bit different from the original Carrera 01.
The Carrera Wearable 01 will be a smart version of the Tag Heuer Carrera- Heuer 01 which was introduced only last March at the Baselworld 2015 event. Nothing is sure yet but this Tag Heuer Carrera Wearable 01 could be upgradeable–a first for an Android Wear device. This makes sense because Tag Heuer’s key focus is the lifespan of a product.
Tag Heuer’s UK communications manager Alexandra King shared with Wearable that Jean-Claude Biver was clear about Tag Heuer also changing as technology changes. She shared, “The watch will change the technology as it develops. “We want to be able to change the technology but keep the watch elements.”
It seems the October or November launch schedule of the Tag Heuer smartwatch is set. We’re not sure about the $1,400 price point though.
