Tag Heuer Connected Android Wear Smartwatch

We were a bit skeptic if the TAG Heuer Connected Smartwatch would really sell but looks like the luxury wearable category has just begun. This very expensive smartwatch from TAG Heuer is now in demand. We’re not talking about just hundreds to a few thousands but the Swiss watchmaker reportedly received more than 100,000 requests from several retailers and subsidiaries from all over the world.

It’s not clear if those are actual pre-orders from actual buyers but it seems that retailers know that the first-ever smartwatch by TAG Heuer has a potential to sell. The watch is more than ready to rival Apple in the luxury smartwatch category with this Android Wear-powered Connected Carrera timepiece. TAG Heuer is also said to target manufacturing about 2,000 pieces per week. The current average is 1,200 according to TAG Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver.

At present, TAG Heuer is offering the smartwatch online but will be suspended soon, sometime in May or June, so the company can give priority to physical stores Biver said. LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE (LVMH) has plans to release more models in 2016 and 2017 so this TAG Heuer Connected smartwatch isn’t just the first. The next luxury wearables from the company will probably have options for diamonds and some other new materials.

The luxury Android Wear-powered wearable device is very expensive at $1,500 but there is certainly a market. If Apple can sell expensive, luxury versions of the Apple Watch, certainly, TAG Heuer who is more know in the luxury watch business also can. The brand’s partnership with Google and Intel is expected to be very successful.
