Sonim has been making rugged smartphones for years and launched its latest product not too long ago called the Sonim XP6. Sonim has announced that it plans to bring another new smartphone to market and this time it is doing something different. Sonim plans to use crowdfunding to pay to bring its next smartphone to the active sports market.

The smartphone Sonim wants to build is called the XP7 Extreme and it will go on sale November 25. The smartphone will seek funding on Indiegogo. Sonim says that it has become the first established Android smartphone maker to use Indiegogo to bring a smartphone to market.

The XP7 Extreme will surpass rugged use certifications and has shock resistance meeting military grade standards. The smartphone will also be able to survive drops and submerging in water with IP68 and IP69 standards.

Features of the smartphone will include a loud 103db speaker, long life battery food for 1000 hours of standby and 40 hours of talk. The device will include a warranty that protects it from damage for three years, but not from abuse.
