Before the next version of the wearable OS arrives next month, the Android Wear platform gets a minor update. The Samsung Gear Live and the Moto 360 are the first two smartwatches getting the KGW42N update. This isn’t the Wear 2.0 we’ve been featuring recently so don’t get too excited yet.
Samsung Gear Live owners are reportedly receiving over-the-air update to 4.4W.1 of Android Wear. Google did some quick fixes to the built-in alarm function and the watch interface for Google Maps Navigation. The software OTA (over-the-air) updates are being released in batches but you could manually download it from HERE if you can’t see it arriving on your smartwatch.
Since Google Maps Navigation watch interface has been updated, it means you should also install or upgrade to the latest Google Maps. A turn-by-turn navigation session on a Gear Live smartwatch will now show two or more alternate routes. You only need to scroll through the list provided and tap to select.
With the update, you can now select preferred method of navigation whether public transit, driving, driving, or walking. Turn-by-turn navigations should show up quickly as selected. With this version and the Google Maps app updated, the smartwatch now vibrates with every turn for a more efficient use. As for the alarm function, Google has allowed recurring alarm for different days of the week. A simple “OK Google” voice command will initiate the setting for you to edit with a single tap.
The LG G Watch should also be receiving this software update for the Android Wear.
