There was a time when our todo lists were at the very least just a checklist or, at most, timed reminders of things we need to do. These days, however, a single task may have not just multiple contexts but also multiple people involved. For those types of tasks, MarkO, pronounced as “mark-oh”, tries to be of service by reminding you not just when a task needs to be done but also when you actually are in the location where it needs to be done.

Todo apps these days are getting more sophisticated with more and more capabilities crammed into our mobile devices. For example, MarkO uses GPS in order to alert you to the fact that you are near the supermarket where you need to buy eggs and milk. Of course, it doesn’t happen to know that magically. You will actually have to input the details, like when and where you need a task to be done. But once saved in MarkO, you can lean back and let the app just remind you when and where you need it to.

MarkO also has a social aspect to it, as you can share and collaborate on tasks with other people in your phonebook. Of course, that presumes they are using MarkO as well, but it is easy enough to invite them right from within the app itself. MarkO also gets social with your other devices, meaning it syncs your tasks across all of them in real time. And what self-respecting todo app these days would be without Android Wear support so that you can view and knock off tasks from your wrist, without having to dig out your smartphone.

Of course, MarkO isn’t the only location-based todo app in town. Todoist added that same feature a few months ago. The only drawback is that it is available only to Todoist Premium users. MarkO, on the other hand, has all of that included in the free version of the app, which is promised to remain free forever.
