Samsung isn’t the only carrier on the block with a 5-inch or bigger “phablet” on Android. LG and their Optimus Vu is apparently headed for Verizon with 4G LTE after some leaked pictures of the device seemingly confirmed its fate. There was rumors of the Galaxy Note for Verizon as the Journal, but it looks like LG will get the go ahead instead.

The folks from AndroidPolice received a set of leaked pictures showing the full Verizon and 4G LTE branding on the Optimus Vu, as well as a comparison next to the Galaxy S III as shown above.

The LG Optimus Vu comes with a 5-inch 4:3 aspect ratio display, so it’s pretty wide for a smartphone. The device is rather large and will certainly be a niche product if you ask me, but we’ve received some hands-on already and you’ll want to check that out below.

The phablet rocks a 5-inch screen, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 1.5 GHz dual-core S3 processor, 8 megapixel camera and a decent 2,080 mAh battery. The device is quite thin but also very wide and not to easy to hold. Are you interested in the Optimus Vu on Verizon, or are you hoping the Galaxy Note 2 makes its way to Big Red instead?

  1. lol Its not that bad. What misses it for me are the specs. With the note last year and #2 coming out soon, LG should have had this phone out in March at the latest. Now its releasing a phone that’s old. Now if they price it right it may do good.

Besides that it looks to be another good device from LG.

  2. Blah. I just got an S3. I might have considered returning it and holding out for the Note 2, but if this is V’s next phablet, I’ll keep the S3.

  3. Why do they let these kids who have no idea how people use their phones write reviews? “Oh it is too big!” “It is a fad!” “Niche device! ” How about I travel all week long for work and love having a big phablet so I can listen to Sirrius, watch a movie, work, listen to mp3s, watch recorded seminar’s etc. I am on a plane 15hours a week, not to mention taxis, airports etc. Not everyone needs a phone just to type sms messages to their gf. The galaxy note allows my laptop to stay in its bag 90% of the time. It may not be the device for YOU but acting like these crossover devices are oversized toys shows you have no understanding of how most people utilize them.

  4. Fking hate the Samsung fan boys for trashing EVERYTHING not made by Samsung. If Samsung puts out a pile of shit I bet y’all will scream and praise it as the nicest smelling thing ever. And y’all have the audacity to call Apple users sheep. The Note is a terrible laggy phone w a horrible display. I’ll take IPS over AMOLED anyday. Pathetic excuse of a display.

  5. hoping the Galaxy Note 2 makes its way to Big Red instead! (or both, but definitely Samsung!!) If not, it’ll be the SIII intead
