Instagram has been introducing a lot of new things for consumers, most notably, adding portrait and landscape options for those who want to post photos that were not meant for the previously square trademark IG format. But this new feature, the 30 seconder video, is not for consumers, but more for advertisers who want to tell more visual stories in a longer format.
They are also bringing more advertising tools for brands that have only been previously been available for US brands and accounts. But now the ad options are rolling out in 30 other countries, including Italy, Spain, South Korea, India, and Mexico. One tool is called Marquee, and it brings content to more people but for a short time-frame only so it can be used to push events, movie premieres, concerts, etc. And if a brand needs for its followers to do a specific thing for a campaign or for a promo, they can now have a call to action button, kind of what Facebook has introduced to its Pages.
All these are good things for brands and advertisers, as they can continue to use the photo-sharing app to reach their users. If their content is compelling and the storytelling rich, like what some notable brands have been doing, then it is also good for the regular users. But then if our feed becomes inundated with all these ads, then our use of Instagram might be disrupted, and not in the good way.
