A few days back, we featured a brilliant – albeit somewhat accidental – hack for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 that gave us all a “clearer” perspective. A redditor was able to peel off the plastic film that made the glassy back cover of the Note 5 opaque, and that gave him just a transparent back panel that is quite elegant to look at on Samsung‘s flagship phablet. However, you still need some teardown skillz to get to the point where you can peel that film off, so iFixit helps us out in that department.
First up, you need to remove the Galaxy Note 5’s SIM tray and S-Pen. Remember that all kinds of horrible things happen when you put in the S-Pen the wrong way, so we’re just reminding you. After you do that, the correct way is to have a heat gun and heat the back cover so that the adhesive melts a bit. And then using a couple of picks and a suction device, you can start carefully removing the back cover.
Now, we need to remind you that this back cover is made of Gorilla Glass. Strong it may be, but it’s still glass, so you have to be careful not to break or crack it, or else, there will be no point to your transparent back hack. Once you get the back cover off, our redditor friend has discovered that the film on the glass is removable and should be quite easy to peel off.
