Today at the HP/webOS event we’ve got our pals SlashGear reporting back and we just had to take a peek at what they were seeing. Turns out they are indeed announcing the HP TouchPad, a tablet computer that does show some hearty promise. Would you like to know how well it would hold up against the also recently announced Motorola XOOM tablet, that tablet running Android 3.0 Honeycomb? You’re in luck, we’ve got that kind of battle. Behold an apples to apples (aka no Apple) tablet matchup!

Below you’ll see a chart listing all of the points you’re going to want to see as far as specs compared on these two tablets. These are CONFIRMED specs on both devices, both of them having been officially announced by their manufacturers. The things we dont have confirmed at bits of information that we’ll have to attain once we’ve got the devices in our hands, items like battery time and actual video quality which one would only truly be able to judge once one had a chance to test the device.

So without further ado, behold a knife fight between two tablets!

Will these specs make up your mind, or are you still hung on a line? Take a peek below for a gallery containing our own photos of these devices, both on screen and in hand. Here at Android Community we’ve got sort of a bias for Android devices, but we’ve gotta say, that webOS tablet doesn’t look half bad.

  1. For smart customers with brains Xoom will be an obvious winner
in all battles vs Pad2, TouchPad, PlayBook and Folio.

They lack and will lack specially created OS, tech specs and features, which are basic to be able to get a full and true TABLET computer experience.

  2. The Xoom is going to be THE tablet to have, period! Just like what the Droid X is to phones & it’s huge supremecy to the iphone, imo as I was a former iphone owner & much happier current Droid X owner, the same will be the case in the tablet market w/ the Xoom.
If the Xoom turns out the way it’s looking like it will be a level above the compition, only to be compared against the ipad, but the Xoom will surely be far more user friendly, more cutting edge & we’ll rounded to serve all purposes, & a huge advantage over the ipad in the realm of compatibility, the new Rovi connected platform being a great example.

    Motorola Xoom priced at $799

In case you missed it, last weekend Best Buy briefly had Motorola’s upcoming Xoom tablet priced at $1,199.99 on its Web site, announcing it would be available for preorder on February 17. Well, as rumors suggested, that price tag was only “placeholder” pricing, and Motorola Mobility’s CEO Sanjay Jha today confirmed that the 10.1-inch tablet would sell for an unsubsidized $799 at Verizon Wireless, with a Wi-Fi-only version priced at around $600.
Reuters reported that Jha, who’s in Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress trade show, remarked to reporters, “Competing with Apple you have to deliver premium products.”
Jha also said that nearly all Motorola products will use Google’s Android software this year and that he was as focused on Android as he’d ever been. Still, he hoped alternatives to Android, such as Microsoft’s Windows Phone7 , would remain on the market. Additionally, Jha said the company was “looking at possibly having its own application store.”

  4. Xoom, only because of the fact that apps/media are grossly overpriced or missing (banned by apple) on the iPad, and HP’s webOS is untested/has very little apps.
However no matter what tablet you get your getting screwed. With the Xoom Verizon screws you with the data plan. Apple screws use with the monstrosity know as iTunes, plus no webm html5 support, no flash, pretty much nothing Apple thinks is too competitive(playing it off the whole time like you don’t want it while offering no suitable substitute).
I’m sure HP is planning to install tons of bloatware to maintain high margins while verizon comes from behind and screws you with more required data plans and secret charges on your bill every month.
Verizon would pretty much do anything to sell the iPad 2 so I doubt they’ll require some insane contract, but again Apples there picking and choosing what your allowed to run on your own device, approving only apps that don’t threaten their own or any media that may shed an unfavorable light on Apple.
Basically tablets suck for now. I’m waiting for one that doesn’t require any plan or contract, offer full support for 3rd party apps, no irremovable bloatware, and an OS with a full office suit (edit/create).
