Someone on Reddit shared his discovery that Google seems to be beta testing a new Google Search app. We can’t say we’re really surprised about the sighting because the company has been very busy updating several apps like the Google Play Store and even removing trademark violators on the app store. There seems to be some cleaning up happening at Mountain View these days.

According to redditor LaceratedCantaloupe, he saw a new card when he opened his phone this morning. The particular card brought him to Play Store where he was asked to “join the Google app beta program to play with experimental features before they’re released”. Obviously, this is a beta testing program for anyone who is interested to help Google in finalizing the next version of the main Google Search app.

Once on the Play Store, you are asked to download the new version. Not much details have been shared but other redditors commented that Google Now is merged with the search app.

If you didn’t see any new card on your smartphone, you can try joining the Beta Testing Program.

I tried signing up to see if it’s readily available, I got in and was able to download the updated version. Checking on the ‘What’s New’ section, Google listed three things:

• Quickly search the web and your phone or tablet
• Use your voice to search and more
• Get personalised results based on your location

There’s also the Google Now feature that will give you the right information you need at the right time. Traffic and weather reports can be provided to you even before you leave the house for work.
