The tech giant sent out invites to test the Google Fiber Phone service last February and after almost two months, Google is ready to bring Fiber Phone. The company has just announced the new service that will use your internet connection to work as a landline or cellular line. The Fiber Phone service depends on the cloud which means you need to be connected to the Internet all the time.
You can bring your Fiber Phone anywhere with you. Obviously, it replaces the landline which, honestly, is something you no longer need. So if it’s not landline, calls turn to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). Anyone on the web can contact you now in the same way instant messaging apps do. But just like a landline, Fiber Phone service also offers caller ID, voicemail, call waiting, and 911. It’s like a more high tech phone line because voice messages are recorded, transcribed and sent to you via email or SMS. You can also enjoy call screen, spam filtering, and do-not-disturb features.
There’s an actual Google Fiber Phone device that looks like a landline-smartphone-remote-in-one which you need to buy separately. There’s also the Fiber Phone box that works with your current devices. Google Fiber subscribers can add the Fiber Phone service to their plans for only $10 per month. This means Google Fiber/Fiber Phone users can always enjoy fast TV + Internet + Phone at home.
Don’t get too excited because Fiber Phone is limited only to areas where Google Fiber is available. It will be a new option for residential customers in the following Fiber-covered cities: Atlanta(GA), Austin(TX), Charlotte(NC), Kansas City(MO), Nashville(TN), Provo(UT), Raleigh-Durham(NC), Salt Lake City(UT), and San Antonio(TX).
Feel free to sign up on Google Fiber’s site.
