Google Chrome 42

Almost anything can be done or shared on the Internet right now. The web has proved to us time and again its power to bring information to anyone, anywhere, and anytime. If a person or a brand wants to share an idea, one can easily create a website that provides information and offer a rich online experience. More and more people are going mobile now so it’s important that websites adapt and adjust by giving a better mobile experience to people.

Not all websites are as engaging as mobile sites so developers now need to think about the usability of the sites they’re working on. Good thing there’s Google always trying to provide new solutions for developers, companies, and consumers. Home screen icons and push notifications are more important these days. There is still the dilemma among developers of having a mobile website or a native app.

One solution is the recently updated Chrome 42. With the update, users can now choose to add their favorite websites to the home screen, as well as, opt in to receive push notifications directly from those websites. With these new functions, you can always receive the latest from sites with notifications and add sites to your home screen in an easier way. This means no need to subscribe to newsletters or updates or save numerous bookmarks on your mobile web browser.

You can just add to home screen icons of your favorite websites. It’s like having native apps for those sites without having to launch a Chrome browser for Android and typing the URL or looking for a specific bookmark. With a single tap, you can open a page of sites you frequently visit.

Push notifications for websites are now included. You can see live updates and real time communication on the information and news you want to know. Just like any installed app, websites can now send push notifications to Android users who opt in to receive such from sites like Facebook, Pinterest, Product Hunt, VICE News, FanSided, and Beyond the Rack. More websites are expected to be added to the list soon.

As for the developers, Notification API and Push API are now available for Developers in Chrome 42. Of course, these APIs will still depend on several technology like Service Workers and Web App Manifests. These are just some of the changes the developers can take advantage of. Expect full offline support, access to geolocation and camera, and an improved performance.
