China is well known for blocking and censoring anything that the government doesn’t like or thinks will harm the population. China sensors so much content on the web that it has come to be known as the Great Firewall of china. According to reports, China is now censoring access to other things like the Gmail app and the Android Market for Android devices.

Gmail is commonly a target of attack by hackers suspected of living in China. MocoNews reports that right now the Gmail app is blocked in China along with access to the market alone. Apparently, the block has been going on for 36 hours now at mobile and broadband providers around the country.

The Gmail app isn’t working, but Chinese users are reportedly still able to access the Google Gmail accounts online. So far, there has been no official statement on why the blocks are in place. It’s not clear at this point if the blockage is an accident or if it was put in place on purpose.

  1. America, Europe, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand believe in freedom, China does not.  Even porn is not allowed in China.  Long live porn, beer, and rock n roll in the free West!  We know how to party, and we know how to be free!

    • Um, please don’t be so ignorant. Just because it’s banned doesn’t those things don’t exist in China. We have alot more freedom in China than you would know. You think we don’t know how to party?
I’ll give you an example: anyone, even 3 year olds, can buy beer/alcohol in China. We have a 5000 year history of drinking and making rice wine/whiskey/etc lol. U.S. history is, what? 300 years old?
Not trying to be disrespectful but please don’t think it’s all that bad unless you take 2 sides of view. Don’t believe everything the media is feeding you. Thanks

  2. Doesn’t suck to be Chinese. It sucks to live in mainland China. Don’t know why they would block Android market. I understand if they censor stuff thats “disruptive” to the government, but obviously Android market isn’t. Doesn’t matter, we know how to find workarounds fast. They’ll probably find a way to access the market, the block isn’t too hard to bypass TBH.

  3. I just changed ROMs and couldn’t get my account to load until I changed it from to

now all my services including Market seem to be working

    • Hi Could you tell me how changed ROMs? I have an Asus eeepad transformer i bought here in China, but i can’t access the google play/ market here.
