HTC recently cleared things up in terms of future updates for the One X+ smartphone. Basically, the handset is never going see Android 4.3 or 4.4. But on the flip side, that doesn’t mean the handset will never get another update. There is always the potential for HTC to change their mind based on user backlash. This is something we’ve seen in the past.

But for now, it seems those carrying an AT&T branded HTC One X+ will be getting a small update. The update will bring Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5. Details of the update were revealed by an HTC exec on Twitter. The account is @moversi and it offered just the basics in terms of what can be expected.

“AT&T One X+ users – We have received technical acceptance from AT&T today. Expect the OTA update to OS 4.2.2 + Sense 5 later this week.”

Basically, those with an AT&T One X+ should be on the lookout for an update notification to arrive in the not to distant future. Of course, despite the fact that Android handset updates generally bring about happy users, this one seems like it may sting a bit. Not only are these users going in knowing this will likely be the last major update, but it comes way after other markets saw the same update.

We suppose AT&T could be blamed for the delay, but regardless, it is hard to ignore that we saw reports of Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5 for the HTC One X+ way back in August of 2013. For those keeping track, the handset originally went on sale back in October 2012.

While not less than a year old at this point, it is a relatively new handset in terms of two-year agreements. After all, those who picked this device with AT&T at launch could be under contract till at least October 2014. That thought along sort of helps the Nexus, Google Play edition argument in terms of quick updates.
