As you’re reading this, the threat is essentially over, that is, supposing you didn’t download the apps in question before Google shut this whole situation down. As this sort of thing requires action first, details second, we’ll begin by saying that all of the apps that were serving Malware were hosted by user MYOURNET and should now be taken down from the Android Marketplace. The full list of these apps can be found below.

The situation here is that a so-called developer by the name of MYOURNET has been stealing apps, renaming them, and re-uploading them to the Android Marketplace with new innards capable of rooting your phone, stealing your data, and keeping a backdoor open for further theft and destruction. The giveaway was let known to the world by user Lompolo of Reddit and was further legitimized by our pals at Android Police as the binary string “CVE-2010-EASY Android local root exploit (C) 2010 by 743C”, aka “rageagainstthecage.”

A full list of apps served up by the offending developer account before being removed from the Android Market quickly and decisively:
Falling Down
Super Guitar Solo
Super History Eraser
Photo Editor
Super Ringtone Maker
Super Sex Positions
Hot Sexy Videos
Chess
下坠滚球_Falldown
Hilton Sex Sound
Screaming Sexy Japanese Girls
Falling Ball Dodge
Scientific Calculator
Dice Roller
躲避弹球
Advanced Currency Converter
App Uninstaller
几何战机_PewPew
Funny Paint
Spider Man
蜘蛛侠

If you’ve downloaded any of these apps, please comment below and/or contact Google for further instructions on how to avoid having your phone turn into an information beacon for a terrible person. Let us know if you’ve experienced anything strange!

ALSO We’re aware of the difference between the words Malware and Virus but more people have an instant recognition of Virus than they do Malware, so we found using it in the title to be the right choice in this situation.

    • I also d/l the app photo editor…I uninstalled it the same day b/c it didn’t do what I wanted it to do…but I haven’t found out what to do next?? If you hear anything, let me know.

    • you have an android!!!! which is pretty much a computer, so if you installed something nasty, FORMAT your phone and everything will be okay 😀

      • Not true…if the virus was able to root the phone, root will still be there after factory reset. The only way to remove root is to flash a new OS ROM. This may be unable to be done as well if the root access won’t allow it, so the phone could be bricked.

      • I did the factory rest, but the virus is still there. I don’t know what to do
every time I charge my phone with money to call, it steel the money.

        Please I need help

  1. I’m almost sure that i downloaded the Spider man app and that was like a month ago. I actually did experience some pretty weird things that my phone started to do, like it would shut off every once in a while and other apps would crash or force close but i have done a complete system format and everything seems to be back to normal

  3. I downloaded the Spider Man app awhile ago. My son plays it religiously every day. I have experienced weekly issues with the phone. My phone will change screens on it’s own and not let me return to my homepage. I have to completely shut the phone down and hope that is works normally again. I have also received odd text messages with attachments from numbers I am unsure of.

  4. This is what android market told me to do,and this is what I allready had done, before finding out I had a harmless photo editor……
    but have learned a lot!

    Greatings

    android market says this;

We recommend you perform a factory reset on your device. Please note that this will reset your device to its original state. While your media content (photos, music, etc.) will not be deleted from the SD card, applications and their related data will be uninstalled.
    >
    > To perform a factory reset:
    >
    > 1) Go to Home > Menu > Settings > Privacy.
    > 2) Press “Factory data reset”.
    > 3) Press “Reset phone”.
    >
    > Note that in some devices the “Factory data reset” option may be located under a different menu item, such as Phone Storage.
    >
    > After you perform the factory reset, make sure you sign into your device with the same primary Google Account you were using before.

  5. I downloaded either ‘Falling Down’ or ‘Falling ball dodge’… upon reading this article I uninstalled the app immediately. As for my phone, I’ve experienced strange issues such as the phone freezing occasionally, and then taking out the battery so the phone to function again. What should I do? I am unsure what to do to with my phone.

  6. I am concerned about this new trend where peopleare conncecting with their companies networks with their personal devices. This is dangerous and is going to create security problems.

  7. my phone downloaded spiderman and readers hub as predetermined app. i formated my phone but it still appears and i cant erase it… how do i know if it is a malware or virus? what should i do now?
