Whew, the wait is over and the next superphone from Google is finally here and it indeed is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. So far all I can say is WOW! The event is finally starting to wrap up in Hong Kong but don’t worry, we have hands-on pictures and video with the new Galaxy Nexus so check it all out after the break.

I’ve covered tons of the new changes of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and you can see more details on that here, and if you watched the event live you saw it all too. I’ll skip all those little things as we’ve known the specs and information for a while now, and instead get right into the good stuff — hands-on pictures and video.
Google really has reinvented the wheel here with Ice Cream Sandwich. Everything is extremely polished, simple, user friendly and just gorgeous. From the new application launcher tray, widget selector, People app with HD tiles of all the important people in your phone and more. They’ve really stepped it up a notch and iOS5 should be afraid, very afraid. As far as size is concerned, with no dedicated capacitive buttons the larger screen fills that space and doesn’t make the device actually larger. What we have is an average sized smartphone that will feel very similar in size and nothing out of the ordinary, yet have that brilliant 4.65″ display.
While this is still Android and something we completely understand. Everything is newer, prettier, re-sizable and HD. Everything is HD from pictures of friends and contacts, tiles and more, nothing looks average and the entire device is as crisp and clear as possible. Google is moving away from the long-press to do things on a touchscreen and will make as many things as possible be done via swipe gestures instead. While many things will remain the same, plenty has changed.

We could go on for a long time regarding all the latest changes but instead we’ll just let you check out all the videos and photos and see for yourself.

so uh pentile or no?
pentile died with the old amoled. amoled plus fixed that long ago.
except this screen isn’t a “+” from everything I’ve read it seems to be agreed that this is a pentile matrix display and that the RGB arrangement wasn’t necessary with such a high resolution.
Peruse all the information and mention of the phone and you will not see one place saying its a + display simply “Superamoled HD”
Release Date : January 01, 1970?
Any information regarding unlocked price?
it defaults a few things like 1970 til we have an actual number to plug in.
unlocked will most likely be $499 or $549 like most, but no details yet.
I don’t see the video.
Did you happen to stumble upon an SD card slot under that battery? Looks like I see the makings of one but with something blocking it 🙁
I see I micro SD card slot if you look closely right above the battery you a little slot there. This might be e micro SD slot.
Yeah i see that slot, but it looks thinner than a normal SD card slot. Compare to the SGS2 side by side, the one in the GN looks a tad thinner like it might not hold a card. I’m not sure, I just want confirmation. I’m sure i’ll get that soon but the rumors were that it wouldn’t have an SD card slot and it also rumored that it wouldn’t have a removable battery. Thank god they dodged that removable battery rumor tho heh.
From the looks of it it may just be where the battery contacts are. And the lack of “microSD” imprinted near there also worries me.
They may have hidden it under the battery but I may just be in denial at this point…..
Yes where is the vidéo ?
Id like to know if the body is metallic or not, looks almost nexus one-ish.
What about those gold contacts on the side – Is there a desk dock and car mount available like there was for the original Nexus One?
there will be yes, that is what contacts are for — and charging
I don’t understand how you people can’t see the Micro SD slot above the battery. It is very clearly labeled with the little picture of the card and an arrow.
This phone looks amazing.
where do you see that? I see a micro sd label on the phone on the right in the pictures, but I don’t think that is the galaxy nexus.
The phone on the left in the picture has an SD slot that is painfully visible. It is to the right of the camera lens and has a metal, H-shaped bracket on it. It is an indentation in the size and shape of an SD card, and while there is no SD card in it, you can see the same label in the indentation that you can see next to the SD card on the Galaxy S.
I mean seriously, it is right there, plain as day in all three pictures where the back is off the phone.
Yeah, I’m full of shit. That’s not the SD card. My bad.
I am still assuming that all the people reporting that it DOES have an SD slot know what they are talking about. Certainly it is safe to assume they know more than me.
LOL – Thats for the sim!
why the hell is vincent a known crapple fanny touching our phone. go away vincent with your biased gs2 vs i4s brower test. everyone rip on his ass. he’s an obvious iphony. notice he sounds like he’s whispering, probably has some ibuttbuddies near and doesnt want them to hear him say the phone is smooth
Maybe because the iPhone will always be better than Android?
Fail of a phone compared to others nowadays =
1. the camera sucks, both front and back
2. the screen is way too large for a phone…
3. the scrolling of panels looks kindof rigidy. Like, actual smoothwise, its smooth, but how it transitions, its kinda snappy and doesnt give you the whole super smooth feel to it like modern phones. The panel scrolling is like the mytouch 4g, not appealing to my taste compared to ones like the gs2, iphone4, htc amaze, etc.
4. Galaxy prime sounded 100000000000000000000000+x better, galaxy nexus, wtf XD
aside from that, the only thing i like is the display and resolution ^^ kudos to samsung!
No Micro-SD slot is a bummer. I easily use up my current 8GB i9000 Galaxy S onboard storage as well as an external 16GB microSD storage when shooting HD video, and watching TV series episodes/movies stored on both.
I hope this has USB On The Go Host capability and MHL>HDMI output at least like the Galaxy S2. I also hope it has a wide support for codecs and plays stuff like MKV files which the Galaxy line does very well, but the Nexus S fails as it is stock android.
…damn,do i need to sell my EPIC TOUCH for this? Is it worth it?
Sorry guys there’s no SD card slot I’ve checked it because I’ve had a hands on and I’ve checked everywhere including under the battery… so that sucks bad i don’t see why they did not put an SD card slot… That’s really unthoughtful of them IMO and it seems like they’ve rushed this masterpiece if the lack of 8MP camera, front 2MP and most of all SD card slot.
Oh man no SD card slot!!! WTF I was 100% convinced i was going to buy this phone when it comes out… because it has EVERYTHING i need and i wanted it so bad for the past few weeks but now that i’ve found out no sd card……. shattered my heart completely. I’ve been debating whether to get iphone 4s or nexus for the past week.. now I have concluded and i will go buy the Iphone 4s… thanks alot samsung made me wait so long and got my hopes up.. and i would’ve had the iphone 4s ages ago dammit made me wait for this crap! never getting android product again they rush everything i mean seriously how many smart phones have they released in such a short time? that’s stupid desperate marketing.. and they are selfish and greedy. when this nexus comes out 100% forsure in under 3 months a better phone will be released.
you make no sense dude.. the iphone has no sd card slot.
I was in the same situation as you and was going to buy the Nexus S, until I found out it didn’t support SD cards.
Do as I did and go for the Galaxy S II ! It’s pretty much the same thing in terms of specs (if not better) but it doesn’t have Android 4.0 though..
omg no sd card so lame man!!
What iphone has an sd card? You pay big bucks for each memory upgrade that is fixed.
I read where ICS will be available for upgrade to the SG2 by April 2012. My question is what features go with the phone and which with the OS. If I get the SG2 now and upgrade to ICS later, what features will I lose not having the Galaxy Nexus when both have ICS – like panaorama camera shots?
HD 1080 video eats a LOT of memory on my Canon 7D so memory IS a factor and a removable card is a big plus.
so the video says a 5.0 mp camera and what u see in the pics are a 8.0 mp ?
I noticed that the video and pics doesn’t seem to coincide as well
