At first HTC completely dismissed Android 2.3 Gingerbread and stated the Desire would not get the update, saying they couldn’t fit their Sense UI and Gingerbread both on the internal storage of the device. They later changed that tune after a huge outcry from the public. Newest reports on Facebook indicate all you Desire users will see Gingerbread roll out this month.
HTC said they had to remove a few pre-loaded apps in order to make room for the updates, and latest reports suggest the 2.3 update is in testing stages and is running great. It looks like HTC was able to buckle down and get the update running fairly smooth and they did it quick.
If they were able to change their mind then start and get the update done all in this much time, wouldn’t it be fair to also think they could do the same for the updates for other phones waiting to get their bootloaders unlocked? HTC mentioned on Facebook the 2.3 Gingerbread update for the HTC Desire will be out before the end of July. Hopefully the Sensation and EVO 3D see updates this month too, we will have to wait and see.

We have only a couple of hours left from July. I think I’m going to upgrade to Miui, who needs Sense …
