Samsung and Huawei aren’t the only OEMs working on their foldable phone entries. Samsung has been planning on the device for years now while Huawei only made it known last year that it wants to get ahead of the South Korean tech giant in this category. The Samsung foldable phone, or at least, a prototype was demoed last quarter. It was teased by Samsung in a video and more leaks are expected before its March unveiling. As for the Huawei foldable phone, this one is assumed to be better mainly because of the 5G connectivity.
A Xiaomi foldable phone will be a nice additional challenge to both Samsung and Huawei. Samsung may go first with the Galaxy Flex foldable phone while Huawei will show off its own. Xiaomi may make an announcement next quarter.

The Xiaomi foldable phone you see here shows two outward folding edges. It appears to be large. The folded phone looks big already so imagine the device when opened.

Interestingly, a Xiaomi’s Global PR Team shared an official statement on the idea of a foldable device. The Chinese OEM confirmed a double folding smartphone equipped with a flexible folding screen. Xiaomi has an unnamed partner in this venture.
The foldable phone is also said to run on MIUI. It is described as a first in the world to have three form factors: double folded, single folded, and tablet form.
Xiaomi’s PR group added: “Each innovation is the result of joint, cumulative R & D efforts from supply chain partners and the device manufacturer. It is misguided to think a folding screen can be easily turned into a folding smartphone without significant breakthroughs in technology. Each segment of the industrial chain has its unique contribution. Xiaomi believes that innovative products and great user experience are possible with sound collaboration and participation from all parties.
We’ll see what Xiaomi has more in store for the mobile industry. After Xiaomi, we wonder what OEM will tease us another folder phone.
