OnePlus 7 5G Concept

The idea of a 5G smartphone is something that the mobile industry has been waiting for ever since the technology was introduced back in 2015. The new mobile Internet connection is ready earlier than scheduled as made possible by numerous tests and deployments. For OnePlus, the Chinese OEM has been toying on the idea of a 5G device but we were told it won’t be the OnePlus 7. The company won’t implement 5G tech yet but a 5G phone will be ready this year.

There was talk before the OnePlus 7 5G model will be more expensive but not that expensive. At the MWC, we’ll see what OnePlus has to offer.

OnePlus will be unveiling the 5G phone in Barcelona. It will only be the prototype version but it should already work. We’re not sure if this is the OnePlus 7 already but OEM’s flagship is usually announced every Q2 of each year.

OnePlus notes of a ‘5G gaming on a OnePlus 5G prototype’. So it will be a gaming phone prototype that supports 5G. That sounds really good.

What’s more interesting is that OnePlus will share a booth with Qualcomm. Obviously, OnePlus will use Qualcomm’s 5G processor–the Snapdragon 855.

Will OnePlus be the first to offer an actual, commercial 5G phone? That is a possibility but Huawei is set to unveil its 5G foldable phone in the next few weeks as well.
