The guys over at the XDA forums have heard it from a credible source that MediaTek’s new flagship chipset – the Helio X27 – will launch first with the upcoming UMi Z smartphone. Yes, you probably haven’t heard a lot about UMi as a manufacturer as well. But that being the case, we’ll give you everything we have on this piece of news.
UMi is a smartphone manufacturer based in China, and it’s another one in the long line of aggressive smaller manufacturers trying to break out into the mainstream smartphone market. It appears they have been making other phones before this, but the deal to make the new UMi Z one of the first – if not the first – to carry the Helio X27 will most likely shine a brighter light on them.
From the renders and marketing materials, the highlight of the UMi Z is the dual camera setup that’s really becoming popular these days. The Helio X27 is optimized to support these kinds of setups, so it’s logical to feature it in the first smartphone that will be launching with it. Other rumored specs include a whopping 6GB RAM configuration, a large 4,000mAh battery with up to 64 or 128GB of storage space with microSD expansion.
If we look at how UMi touts its wares in the market, the UMi Z would probably be priced aggressively in the Chinese market. There are no indications yet if it will be launched globally, although some of UMi’s phones have been released in other countries as well. XDA has it on good information that the UMi Z might just make it to launch within the year.
